Got up this morning, and in total auto-pilot mode, stuffed both stoves completely full. Noticed the wall thermostats were already sitting at 69F and 73F, in the old and new portions of the house, but didn't think enough about it. Wife came down around 6:45am, and asked why both stoves were roaring. It's going to hit 61F outside today. Doh!

I'm used to checking the forecast before loading the stoves, in November or April... not in January.

Sounds like you will be toasty today!!!

Time to open the windows.

I just loaded the wood holder on the deck up in anticipation of the freeze coming back in. It's not until Friday, duh. I don't check the weather in winter much either. Hey, it's supposed to be cold out this time of year, isn't it?

The stinkbugs will be waking up in that warm house for sure..._g

Open windows for now. Cold coming back tomorrow. Forecasting average 20s for February in Westport, MA (near Horseneck Beach).

You are not an idiot. It is January and a man should be able to burn wood in January without worrying about the weather. Don't give in to the moodiness of mother nature! Show her who's boss!

Joful, I feel your pain. I'm a half hour south of you and this weather is ridiculous. I went outside to get more wood for the coming colder air and almost got stuck in all the mud. Ground is still frozen and the water is just sitting on the top like beef stew. Hold on brother, some bad storms coming to blow this warm air out.

Sorry guys, I appologize for the warm weather! ;)

I've said this before on here, if I buy an umbrella, we will immediately go into a deep long draught, the longest in history. It will not rain for years! If my snowblower breaks, we will get a blizzard that same night, PRIOR to me being able to get the part to fix it! In late Sept this year, I pulled out my generator which had not been run for about 6 months, and started it up to keep it maintained..... It started right up, and ran like a champ for an hour, so I shut her down. A week later, NO KIDDING, Hurricane Sandy took aim, pretty much directly at Long Island. And of course we lost power. No problem right, the geni worked great just a few days ago! Of course not, I could NOT start the Geni and had to borrow one to get by. 2 weeks later, still out of power, I pull the Geni apart to see what the issue is, I find a 10 cent spring about 1/8" long that held the throttle/choke open was broken, keeping it from running. I replace it, and in one pull, she started and ran like a champ. Of course, not 20 minutes later a LIPA utility truck pulls up in front of my house, looks at me standing next to a running generator in my driveway and winds down his window and says: "Hey, don't you have power back?" . I say no!, He looks puzzled, and says "Are you sure?". So I reach into the door of the garage and flick the light switch, and low and behold, the power is on! I could go on and on and on.....

So anyway, in late Dec I installed a Wood Stove. Well, with the exception of last week, it has been the warmest winter I can ever remember. It is 64 out today. So again, sorry!

I did fix the snowblower after the first storm. Now, little to no snow. The ground is clear, muddy and slippery.

Westport, MA (near Horseneck Beach).

I know Westport well! My boat, an old wooden Thistle, spent most of it's life at Westport. One heck of a yacht club you guys run, up there!

Ground is still frozen and the water is just sitting on the top like beef stew. Hold on brother, some bad storms coming to blow this warm air out.

Yep! I've never seen such a good description of our ground conditions in weather like this. Hopefully re-freezing by Saturday, since I'm supposed to spend another day out in the woods bucking up two fallen 40" - 50" diameter oaks!

I did the same thing! Came down to the living room at 5:30 this AM it was 62 so I cranked up the stove, never even turning the news on. Hubby came down wondering why I started a fire. Duh, me, it's been in the 30's and 40's all week, I wasn't expecting 60 today either. Burning up some big uglies just to keep the damp chill off. It will be freezing again by the weekend for sure ;)

Thanks Joful, I came across it while surfing one day and decided to save it. Good luck with those oaks.

At least twice each winter we will have a forecast for a cold night. Around nine o'clock I will pack the stove as usual and get it rolling. Then I come back and check in here and look at the forecast again somewhere along the way and find that the wind has shifted out of the south and temps are headed to over fifty for the night. I let my wife know it is about to get real hot in this joint.

That is one thing I do daily is check the weather. I'll check it before bedtime but then re-check early in the morning too. I've always felt this important when running a wood stove.

Was 61F yesterday, tonght it will be -7, bundle up heading EAST

You know, the weather people do pretty well with the temperature predictions but the rest of their predictions leave a lot to be desired.

You're just gettin' heat into the stone, like a heat sink, for the cold that's coming back, right?

Actually, yes! Got home and found the old half of the house sitting at exactly 70F, like I had planned it. That stone really moderates the heat, like a masonry heater.

The new part of the house (framed, with lots of windows) was at 74F. Warm, but tolerable. I'm guessing it was much warmer in that part of the house around midday.

We're all guilty of the same thing, miscalculating weather conditions. I'm sweating it out too but in a few hours things will equal out again; after the rain.

I started a fire Monday night and got it going with 5 splits and went upstairs to get on here and when I went up it was 35 outside, heard the wind blowing and came back down 15 minutes later to check the fire and I couldn't believe it. The temperature had risen to 55 degrees. I thought the thermometer was malfunctioning so I checked the other one and it was reading 58. I didn't know the temperature could go up so fast.

Ok I'm probably gonna take some flack for this, but I just put my window AC back in the bedroom and cranked it up. I hate this humid sticky January thaw stuff!

Crank up that progress hybrid and that should take care of the humidity:cool:

All three of our dehumidifiers have been running today. They're on auto humidistats, with automatic drains, so they just go on/off by themselves as needed.

It's 76 in here, no fire in the stove. Debated starting one with the temps due to drop overnight, but just gathered kindling, firestarter and matches in case it gets chilly in the middle of the night instead.
