Woke up this morning to the sound of wind beating on the house. My wife looked out the window just in time to see the wind take a huge limb off one of the maples in the front yard. Wind and rain. Only hope the ground didn't get too soggy or there will be more of them tip over. Looks like I won't have to go too far for wood for the fire pit this summer!

The storms of the last two years weeded out the weak trees. We had some fierce winds last night, and no free firewood this morning :(

I cut all my "danger" trees down from around my house this last summer. Trees are overrated close to the house, in the distance they're fine but a 2 footer falling through the roof is not what I want to think about when I hear the wind howl.

We still have a bunch laying around from the Derecho that hit us this summer.
I decided to watch the storm from outside. (Should have worn goggles)
Heard a crack and turned to watched a 25 ft. cherry tree fall on my truck.
Funny think is it fell slowly and landed on my roof racks causing only minor scratches.
Its firewood now.

A few years ago I spent every night for a couple of months after work tearing my old garden tractor down to the frame and doing a complete rebuild. Engine and all. New seat, nice paint job, the works. Three weeks after I got done with it I had to park it out by the pole barn one night. A surprise wind storm dropped a huge pine tree right across the middle of it and totalled the thing.

Except for natural air conditioning, you are very right! That cost, but not a much as trepairing a hole torn through your roof. I have but one tree left that could fall and cause damage. That one is by the garage. I have been waiting several months for my son to come and take it down. It shades my garden and is a risk. It has gotta go!

In the northwest, in a single story home, we just don't need air conditioning even after removing all shade. There might be a night or two that is uncomfortable but still tolerable. We don't even open the windows at night.

Same here for us. Only a few tiny branches down.

Kept waking up all night to that howling. Really surprised to find so few branches on the ground. Course we've had a few of these windstorms this Winter and Sandy must have made a good sweep of the tree tops too.
