Doing a complete overhaul of my winter warm. Yummy. Refractory is also shot.

Whoa... That definitely looks beat. I'd imagine you noticed your performance drop off after it got like that.

How old is the stove and is this the first time with the cat out?
 
Ya they are. Not doing a huge overhaul

Just replacing all the gaskets refractory, cat and sweeping the chimney. Should finish tonight and put her back in the fireplace in the am.
 
Jeez that CAT is shot.
 
OK question time. My refractory was so badly damaged I couldn't tell how it was setup. The new one I believe goes into place like this, access panel and cat on top. That's what the manual is saying.


Now the weird question I have is that on the back of the stove where the refractory goes in, there is a protruding screw. I'm guessing that it pokes a hole through the refractory to keep it in place???????

Help me please lol
