Yep, it is currently 72.6 in my den, 68.8 upstairs in the great room, and just for giggles 66 in the master bedroom. Which is the room at the head of the stairs on the left above the den.

But you see that is fine, the stove was purchased to heat my den, the fact it can handle the house is just gravy for the mashed spuds.

My point is that there is a large opening between floors where the stairs go up. So what difference would it make if there were registers cut into the floor to let heat through? Its not like the floor is rated as a fire break.

Used to be 55K. But even 45 is a stretch from their rated 5 LBS/hr. I don't know, Maybe? But I would put any money on it!

That is something to take up with the code folks, actually in newer construction it is likely that what is between floors does qualify as a fire break. In some buildings stairwells must be doored off with automatic door closers. But we don't want to go there.

Ahh, Got ya! Little different with a finish basement and no door in between.

Mines unfinished(well semi really) and don't want the critters in my stuff down there. I have a louvered door. Local code even frowned on that. A friend built a raised ranch with a finished basement. Had to put a door in before he could get his C/O. Doesn't mean he needs to close it!

Actually I have more than an air return there and if I can manage to get off my butt this spring I might even get that temperature difference reduced again. We will see what the boss allows me to do on the house this year.
