Just searching the web for place in Maine who repairs these and have not found any. I found some out of state places but would like to avoid having to ship it if I can. If anyone knows of a company in Maine that repairs circuit boards please let me know.

I bet there is a core charge. Typically something like this could be refurbished and resold. Id be curious to know what they say.

they will say its broken and they threw it out then get it fixed and sell it on ebay for 200

First of all calling the display and control unit a thermostat is a misnomer. It does so much more than signal air temperature. Anybody who owns an AE should realize that.
But really guys the, shoot from the hip, wild a$$ guesses as to how to troubleshoot this problem are astounding. Advice on connecting wires together without an understanding of what those wires are is just unconscionable. The OP is lucky that this advice did not damage his stove's control board and/or power supply. There could be no doubt from his original description that the control unit was damaged by electrostatic discharge. Why muck with wires that do things you don't understand when it is highly unlikely that it will do any good and probable that it may do harm?
This may seem like a bit of a rant, but if we are to give helpful advice, our first priority should be to do no harm.

A little late to the show, But your right. Could have been a bad thing and something could have made some fizzle noises and go poof! Usually followed by an odd smell and a little blueish smoke. !!!

I appreciate the thoughts. The stove was unplugged during this but yes when I plugged it in something could have gone bad. But its up to me if I try the advice or not so I do not blame those trying to help they were offering the best advise the knew how. So no problem here. Its my choice and my responsibility. Realize some have more experience than others.

At any rate....an update I did contact the dealer and they have the old Control Unit and will be sending it back to me. Any suggestions on who might be able to fix it?

Ok have to share something funny that happened today. So I had cleaned out the hopper before the dealer came and left it empty just in case he needed to get into it. I used a small round plastic bowl for this. And I scooped the pellets out and into empty pellet bag. When I was done I must have set the bowl on top of the pellets in the bag. Well today the wife calls and says the stove is shutting down and reading min-firepot-temp. I was at work and could not think of what was causing this. I called the dealer and we went around deciding to start simple and look at the drop tube and then clean the hopper out if the tube was clear just to make sure there was no jam. Well, you can guess what the wife found in the hopper when she cleaned out some pellets. Yes the bowl. It had worked its way down to the bottom and was restricting the pellet flow. All I can think is when the dealer put in some pellets in the stove yesterday he did not see it and in it went........!!!. Needless to say when I called the dealer back we had a good laugh......and I am sure you all are laughing at me now...:)

I have tinkered some. If you can't find someone? I'll take a look. No promises. I'll even look under the hood(post pictures for the group) and maybe someone else can see whats up?

No labor fees. Just shipping and parts is all I'll ask. If it helps the group? its good for me!

Thank you, I might just take you up on it. Let me get it back and I will be in touch.

We used to refer to that as essence of Allen Bradley (a manufacturer of resistors)

I have the honor of smelling that special perfume. We had a tech that decide 24V coils(pnuematic valves) were beter than 120V on a few of our machines. Funny how Seimens and Fanuc have a similiar smell to AB. A simple fuse on the output card and we had a safety for the "well this aughta work" tech's.............

I don't really like electrons. No way to see them and impossible to hit with a hammer. ;em

I was always told if you let the smoke out of the black box your in trouble.
