I had the fuel company call me and ask if I had switched to a different company. It had been two years since I'd called them. I said "nope, still over half full", pause, "Oh, ok, how do you heat your house sir? Gasification M'am"
It's a great feeling isn't it!

I'm sure she was thinking WTF is gasification... I have no idea what that is even!. What is used for fuel?

When I accidentally burned my entire boiler and shed (I was an absolute idiot and earned the situation), I figured I'd buy a tank of fuel oil to make it easy on myself. I used to be able to buy on net 30. They would not let me do anything other than up front citing because I left them.

I told them I didn't leave them. I was just able to make a tank last a while.

So I said screw it, went out that evening afterwork and my boiler was back up and running at 4am the next morning. I haven't purchased fuel oil in 6 years!

I have been at about a half a tank for over a year now I guess. I should have written the day down that they came and pumped 100 gallons in last. Oh well. That 100 gallons was just to have on hand for when we wanted to go away or if something happened and we could not tend to a fire for a while. It is a great feeling.

It's been about 6 years since I received an oil delivery. I don't want to purchase the minimum 100 gallons that the oil dealers require so I just buy five gallons off road diesel periodically when I see a decent price. It keeps me in hot water over the summer.

That will soon change since I am exploring alternatives to oil for DHW. Super store and cold start boiler don't seem to be the most efficient way to make DHW.

This method also guarantees the the oil in the tank is fresh as it is added over a period of time.

That is a nice long time to be without any serious oil use Fred. I am going to have to let my oil burner cycle a little here and there to do what you are saying as well. Keep that mix of kero and fuel oil fresh and keep the oil burner "exercised". Been a good while now since it has run. Maybe I better do that sooner than later. We are going away for 1 night and two days in a couple of weeks. But I think I will try it before that and make sure everything runs fine for a while.

Not a bad idea! I don't burn wood in the summer, because the eko is in my basement so I don't want to be cooling upstairs while I'm making heat downstairs.
