Stoves must be small. Or the woods not up to par. I can hardly get mine off lowest setting unless its in the single digits for a 3000 SF house Whats your BTU total for both stoves?

We are a balmy 22 right now with chill factor of 15 and headed down. Damn cold for these parts. Letting the 30 handle it on its own tonight and getting ready to put in the night load. 76 downstairs now and 71 upstairs. That will improve some when the bad boy launches with the night load. Load it, nail biter launch and bedtime in an hour our so. ;lol

Stoves are not small, and the fire wood is 2 year + seasoned. I do know what I'm doing at this point in my fire wood burning life ;hm

Opened up the connecting door between the apartment and the main house, way better heat flow.Murph's having a blast going to & fro ;lol

My stove is rated at 75000 and im sure it pushes at least 50000 on low. Keeps the 1st floor about 80-85, 2nd about 76 . Stove room itself is ridiculous about 90-95

About to pack the 13, and hope for the best. That's my worry, but I think I'll be OK for the night.

Packing the PE right afterwards........... not worried about that puppy by a long shot.

I blew it on the load. Too much air space between two pieces in the center. In about 11 minutes and 7 seconds all hell is gonna break loose when the remaining moisture has cooked off of those splits.

I hate it after it is flaming and I look at it and say "Could I start over with this?".

Going down into the teens for tonight. I need winter to ease up cause am down to burning poplar and a lot it is seasoned it don't burn near as long as red oak.

It's been an awfully cold winter this year. It's currently 12 degrees here, and went down to 11 last night. I noticed the garlic coming up in the garden, so hopefully these cold temps let up pretty soon. We have plenty wood, but the pile has taken a hit.

I have A lot of seasoned poplar. Just suffering from seasoned hardwood withdraw ah got it ready for next year.

This coming weekend I'll clear some snow from some Hemlock that has been up for over a year so we can burn it once March hits, we'll still have just under two cord of seasoned Hemlock for this coming season.

My three year wood stacks are rapidly turning into two year stacks.

Gonna be -5 to -10 with wind chill.

Wind destroys my ability to heat this place. I got everything at about 70 degrees in here, but the wood usage is disturbing. If it was calm and -5 it would be a lot easier.

Stupid old home...

My thermometer is reading "2" right now, it usually reads a couple degree's low but either way it's another cold one. Looking at that 10 day forecast we're home free after this one. ;)

;lol I say that half the nights I load the stove.

The good news is, we're almost to March. For me, at least, that's shoulder season burning. I might be down to using, *GASP*, one stove!

Stupid, drafty, old house...

I loaded the garage rack(1/3 cord) today and figure that will be my last load of the "good" stuff coming in. After that's gone I hope to finish out the season with Cherry.

I've been at this place since Friday with no stove. My wife, kids and I don't quite know what do with no way to warm the backside. My sister and nephew are here too, and have the same problem. The furnace is at about 72, but it just ain't the same. Don't want to go home, but it's something to look forward to tomorrow.

This is my daughter, on the beach yesterday afternoon ;lol. That was open water behind her about six hours earlier, before a wind shift.

Upstairs 75::F downstairs 70 ::F. I had a heck of a time getting the chimney to draft, I had a portable heater warming the stove/chimeny for 3 hours to get it to start drafting enough to start a fire. It is PITA to operate 2 stoves in extreme weather.

Stay warm my friends .......

It is still 20 degrees in North Central NJ - not far from Doylestown PA (where I had heart surgery done in 2007), The winds are high, so the wind chill must be below zero. I am burning mostly 1 year seasoned birch (trees that came down in the October 2011 snow - unheard of in NJ, and the trees thought so too) and some other mixed hardwood that is two years+ seasoned. I am not pushing it, I can't imagine surviving with the stove room running in the 80s. For me that is my living room and it is about 73 degrees right now, closer to 65 upstairs and 62 or even 60 by morning in the first floor room connecting to the garage - far from the stove (insert). I have a forced air system (geothermal heat pump) and the circulating fan is running on low and that helps distribute the heat. I just put in a couple of big splits before going to bed around midnight and expect this will hold the HP off until about 3 AM, it is set to come on at 64 degrees. If I get up at 6 AM, not the usual, the insert will still be warm, but the fan will have shut down. Still easy to get a fire cranked up as the chimney is still warm too.

The temperatures have been in the high 20s and low 30s at night for the last week or longer and I have been taking it easy, just letting the heat pump handle the job. And it is nice having all rooms at about the same temperature, upper 60s is were we run during the awake hours. But, tonight the wood fire feels right and the HP is resting.

One of the reasons I post/reply is to see if I get email notice of any additional traffic. I haven't been seeing email notices on threads I have participated in.

Check your spam files. It happens every now and again to me. I mark them "not spam" and that seems to work for a while.

Been home off and on all day, so the loading got screwed up. I had to burn down the coals, but timing was off, so now I finally have a full load in the stove.
It's 5 out right now and the house got too chilly, so I set the phone alarm for 4 a.m. to check and probably add some wood.
When it gets down around...well, where it is, I have a struggle on my hands to keep the house warm enough. Been here before and we'll be fine ( though a bit chilly), but I prefer the house warmer.
Good idea opening the door Dixie. Get that heat circulating.
I'll be sleeping in sub 60 bedroom tonight.>>
