I just wanted to say how sick I am of seeing this absolute garbage pellet being sold in Michigan. No matter where you go, Menards, Lowes, Home Depot, TSC, and Family Farm and Home, all you see is this brand. For those of you who know what a good pellet is, could you please complain to these stores like I do about this brand, so these stores understand just how bad this product is and maybe, just maybe, next year we will get more of a variety. All of the people I have talked to at these stores seem to think this pellet is a good pellet.

Amen.

I gave the manager at Menards a big thank you when they got the load of Magic Spark this year and asked if they could make that their 'standard pellet'. He told me that corporate controls who gets what and admitted he thought all pellets were the same.

I suspect freight costs are a lot less which is why there are so many of them in West Michigan.

I must confess I bought a bag to see if the 'new improved formula' was different than last year. I noticed zero difference.

Are Michigans and North Country Pellets the same?

Not sure where you are in West Michigan, but take a look on Craigs List/Muskegon and you will find a dealer in Grant and another in Newago That carry Uncle Jeds, Sommerset, Propellet/Magic Spark, Isabella(shoulder season) and others. The Newago dealer delivered any place in West Michigan for $25 a ton.

Yo, outerlimits.... Chillax man, you've got a Harman. You know, a "smart stove." It can burn any grade pellet. Burn, baby, burn!

EDIT: For the love of God, please hear the sarcasm.

Every time that I see one of these threads I have to chime in that Michigan Wood Fuel pellets are not the same company as Michigan Pellet. The prior is located in Holland, Michigan and thr later is located in Grayling, Michigan. They are not affiliated in any way. Michigan Pellet makes a good burning pellet that is low in ash by weight but high in ash by volume. It produces a lot of snowflake like fluffy ash. I've burned them in the off season Their plant outlet in Grayling also sells ProPellets nd Isabella pellets.

I would like to pay 3.35 per bag for a decent pellet like I used too. CT, when u going to start selling Infernos? CT, i don't see u burning bad pellets in your stove. Also, Michigan wood fuels doesn't seem to be sending pellets out east anymore, I wonder why? What can I say, I like good pellets for cheap.

$3.35 per bag? Hell man, I'd like to be able to buy them that cheap too, but I can't...And I buy them wholesale!
When will I start selling Infernos? When the price of the pellet allows a margin that would be worth my while selling them for a reasonableretail price . But, this also presumes that their quality is enough that the sale would not be detrimental to my reputation and/or business model. As it stands right now, there is no plan for me to start selling the Inferno pellet.
As far as you not seeing me burning "cheap" pellets in my stove? YOU WON"T! I was ribbing you about the Harman and the "smart stove" crap and being able to burn "any pellet." I love life, and live it as best as I can. I want to enjoy my stove, not be married to the damn thing....so I burn great pellets and enjoy the rewards. I am one of the biggest advocates of declaring that people's expectations of the Harman" are often unreasonable and that they have been oversold in their expectations in the showroom. I have a Harman, and although it can burn crappy pellets, it will NOT burn them well. Period.
And lastly, as you liking good pellets for cheap?....Well who the hell doesn't? But if what you are looking for are high end, consistant pellets in the big Box store, then you will continue to keep hitting your head against the wall. Get out there, look around....mingle....and maybe you'll meet someone, like Ozark, or Country Boy White Lightning, or Uncle Jed.:)

Come on tell the truth. If you put a crap pellet in the hopper and the wifey gets cold. You'll get what the rest of us get! A whack up side the head with a skillet. :p

Ct, I know u were ribbing me for my rant . I am ok with that as I get a kick out of your comments. By the way, here is the list of my stash: pinnacle Doug fir, Jed's, Somerset, greenways, eureka, black hills gold. I have met quite a few. Shoot, I even have a couple of bags of atlas left. Are any of these brands worth meeting?

Looks like a nice list to me. I loved the Eureka's, But they don't make it over here anymore.

CT used to sell Michigans. Might bring back some bad memories of ash filled stoves?

10 or so years ago bought pellet's at Wallyworld for $2 a bag or $100 a ton for pennington's, reg price was $134

Daaaaaaaammmmmnnnn! Nice stash....You're doing fine. Quit looking for the "Deals that aren't really deals" then. You spend a little extra and it makes a world of difference. I agree with you, but not everyone does. But at the end of the day, we all just do what works best for us which makes us all right!

No bad memories at all. I brought them in in 2008 when you could not find wood pellets to save your life. From August thru November, Michigan was all that I could get my hands on for new customers, because all of my "corner stone products" were all spoke for by my regulars....(like your 2 tons of Turmans!!!) I will tell you that when we sold them, we were very upfront in telling customers that it was a new product and that we did not know anything about them. Now, you wanna hear something surprising?.....Some people liked them and some did not!! Imagine that...Just like EVERY OTHER PELLET IN THE FREAKING WORLD!!
But the feedback that we got was good enough to carry them again in 2009, and many people who tried them in 2008 bought them again!! We stopped carrying them because the freight to rail them in from Michigan was just too expensive. No bad memmories from selling Michigans at all, and as a company, they were some of the best people that I have ever done business with.

I bought somewhere around 1.5 ton of them last year, first year I saw them at the box stores. I thought they were ok.

Until I started reading here and burned other brands. I then saw the light.

They are not the Spawn of Satan and won't make the stove vomit all over your house or anything like that. I think what outerlimits is getting at is that we pay the same for these as what other folks pay for Somerset or another decent brand at a different store in the same chain further down the road. It's luck of the draw I suppose.

Smart Energy in Grant is one of the stores wooden head is referring to. Good people and no junk. I plan on ordering at least 4 ton from them this summer and have them delivered. $25 a ton for delivery isn't outrageous figuring the time it will save and not making 8 round trips at 30 miles each. I haven't checked out the folks in Newaygo yet as they're a bit farther from me but I think their prices are similar.

Yeah, They were just OK. For the asking price, There were better deals for the same dime. Did get a few of them free. Saved em from becoming ice melt and compost.

CT if you think 08 was bad? You shoulda seen 2000/2001. 08 was a cake walk.

Ran across another vendor in West Michigan. Mulch Pro/Zeeland 616-875-4500

Burned alot of Michigans in my Harman back in 2008-09, So much ash the fire would get nearly snuffed out... No joke.

Are Michigans and North Country Pellets the same?
At one time they were. Back in 2009, Michigan WOod PEllet used a bag labeled North Country as well as their flagship label Michigan Wood PEllet. Today, there is a manufacturer in Alberta that is using the North Country label. Totally different pellet, different company and different bag. Just coincidence that they chose the same name.

Only asking because my sister bought a ton of North Country's from Great Works Bio-Fuels for a good price and she said said they burn clean and hot. She's bringing me 3 bags tomorrow to try out.
