I would have sworn that the OP was going to say those nails & stone came from bags of Infernos, with all the scrap wood & pallets they grind up to make pellets.

I've been thinking about this today and I think GAP has missed a great PR opportunity 2 bags is BS how about we don't want any unhappy clients so we've made arrangements with the supplier to pick up the remaining 1/2 ton and bring you another ton, or refund the purchase price of 1 ton. Should you not feel confident in burning the other 2 tons same deal. Because we at GAP feel very confident in our product blah blah..........

You get the idea and with all of the pellet consumers on this site i would think that would go a long way word travels Fast here

Is it possible, even in the absolute slightest, that if they were to offer an exchange and a free half of ton to the OP, that someone here may try and take advantage of them. Is it possible that if their policy was to give a free half ton to someone who complained about having nails in the bags (despite the fact that their manufacturing facility is set up with extensive preventative measures so this does not happen) that there would be many, many phone calls to the mill complaining of nails? Just throwing this out there.
Who would possibly do this you ask?.........Maybe the same person or people who are not Veterans or active duty who come on here and brag about capitalizing on the Big Box military discount for example.
I truly believe the OP and what he says regarding the nails, but I agree with the mill here....No harm/No foul.

CTPellet, maybe I am naive, but I'm not sure I recall any situations where someone who is not eligible bragged about using a military discount....now if you want to talk about someone using a moving discount that's not moving.....that's another story

How? The last time I brought it up on the forum, I mentioned that I thought that the coupon had been discontinued, but I was told it wasn't.

Did they change the "conditions" listed on the coupon?

I could be in error......I did try and search under "military discounts" but damn, hundreds of previous posts. For argument's sake, lets say I am wrong on that, but not to digress, the mill certainly would be vulnerable to be taken advantage of if this were their policy, no?

Dealer said this was a first in his 20+ years dealing with pellets. He said he will replace the bags I have with bags from another manufacturer. He seam like a stand up guy.

The first question that comes to mind - does the OP have kids, nieces,nephews or any other small humans that would find throwing nails into the hopper irresistible ?
The fact that your stove chewed them up and spit them out literally makes me a believer of your model stove.

I have two sons one a month the other is 3 years. As you can see by the avatar my stove is fenced. Possible but not likely.

To solve my curiosity I used a strong magnet to find nails right from the bag. So I used a SS channel and slowly poured the pellets over the magnet. I found a nail head.

If there were no rips in the bags prior to your opening them, it must have occurred at the plant... Like the guys say here, it didn't happen if there are no pictures. Did you happen to get any pictures on delivery of the pallets or where you store them? Were they wrapped on the pallet from the factory?
If you can rule out any of the steps in between, you should write GAP again and ask them what their protocol is for mishaps in plant and in the warehouse. I've never seen a pellet production run but I am sure it's not 100% automated. What happens with overfill on bags? Do bags snag on conveyor on their way to be palletized and get ripped open? Forklift doesn't pick up load right, pallet breaks and/or rips open bags - do they scoop them up and repackage?? We are dealing with some component of human error here.

That is correct CT. I could tell by the conversation he did not know if I was pulling his leg or not. I can see where he is coming from if this is the first time he heard of nails in pellets in his 20+ yrs experience. He was trying to get a hold of me first thing in the morning to drop off two tons of pellets for an exchange. His first thought was to satisfy his customer. A first time customer 70 miles away, he has no idea who I am. The great customer service company is:

Tell ya What, I have burned every cheap trash brand of pellets that could be found in our neck of the woods, and never ever found nails or other bits like what you have shown.

This crap can't get through the pellet mill, so it must have gotten in during the bagging process.

This sort of junk can do serious damage to your stove.

I have never seen metal chunks in pellets before.

Clinkers are common and form from melted dirt, sand, etc and are quite common with pellets made from trashy base stock that contains bark, and wood materials that have been contaminated with dirt before being ground up and pelletized.

My guess it that the nails got into the pellets during the drying/cooling process, and fell into the pellets from something overhead from a conveyor, roof section of the building or ??? This junk was not in the pellets themselves.
