I will let this load run hot for a while, I'll see if I can get a burn time.
It's hard for me to give a real test on burn times. I always relaod in the morning because I have to leave for work, even though I still have a hot stove in the morning. Everyday I get 11 hours between loads, with mostly soft woods. After 11 hrs there is still good heat and lots of coals!

I suppose I would get about 5-6 hrs out of that stove/wood in my environment

I would think you would get more than that as it is a larger stove than the Encore.

I'm not following you, why would you only get 5-6 hrs out of it?

I was half joking with my comment, also frustrated wih the cold snap we are getting.
Even with your larger stove in my environment (very cold outside, 3200 sq home) using softwood like poplar, I can not imagine getting 11hrs burns more like 5-6 hrs.
I was just frustrated! No spring in sight!!

Get ready for some intense heat. Keeps us informed on the burn time
Well, this morning I reloaded before I left for work as usual. I had 2-3" of big coals left and ended up with a 14 hour burn. The coals would have been enough to heat for another few hours, but I need to reload before I leave for work. It's no Blaze King burn times, but I'm pleased!

So is cutting your wood to 12 inches and loading N/S worth it?

I am also super frustrated with my Leyden.
But when it is working well, it puts on a beautiful show.
Do you get that same type of fire display with the cape cod?

Yes! You were right. Your the best, I'm the worst, you are very attractive, I am not good looking.

The problem is that I already have next years wood ready to go, and it's all in the 18" range.

Oh ya. I get the light show from the secondary tubes as well as the same kinda lightning show that the Leyden and cat stoves get once the air is turned down.

Don't thank me. You should be thanking Zap because I got the idea from him and boy am I glad I did. I had the same problem the first year to. My wood was cut in the 18 to 20 inch range for my dutchwest. If you plan on keeping the stove and I have a very good feeling you will start cutting it short now for two years down the road

Oh, ok. Thanks Zap!
It's gonna be hard to stack 12" wood. I have friends that use some baskets made from metal tubing with a poly skid attached. I might start using a method like that to store wood. They are 99% open air and I can use the tractor to move them around. This might be easier than I thought!>>
