Anybody else do anything like this?

I always had to throw a huge pile of garbage out under the trees in the spring with my old boiler - all the wood pile crap left on the floor after the wood is gone. Boiler just wouldn't burn it. Now with the gasser, I throw some of these in once in a while on top of a good coal bed & couple of splits and they burn like crazy. Even more free heat. :)

Lay them out -

I'm one of those guys with no patience. I want to get things done so I can go on to the next task. I think there's a pill for that! When cleaning up the duff under the wood pile there us usually more than I want to put in the boiler at any one time so it's easier for me to throw it back into the woods where it will also be of some benefit. Periodically, if I have some bark or chips fall off in the wood cart I'll throw them in. Also my wood for my daily burn is brought in daily on my Harbor Freight wood cart so the mess is in the woodshed not far from where it would be dumped.

When I sweep up i put the 'duff' (learned a new word today) :) into paper bags from the grocery store. When it's time to start a fire I throw in a few splits, a bag o duff, some more splits and a match. Works great.

About the same procedure here. Furnace room floor gets swept daily. Then mixed into bags of coal that go into the furnace .

Duff is usually used in conjunction with forestry and reforestation, ie. "woods duff", the stuff on the forest floor. Used that for lack of a better word on short notice. Don't have the english language mastered yet;em

Every bit of "duff" from my wood processing gets burned in the The Wood Gun. Unless it is already outside. Then it goes into the fire pit for the bon-fires.

Learned my one new thing today. Thanks Fred
And you still had half the day left just in case some other new bit of knowledge came along.
Scuttlebutt around here is saying that there's some guy down in mid state Maine walking around carrying a bag o duff;lol

Sweeping up after every pallet. All of it makes a trip thru the vigas.

If you google "bag o duff" this thread is the fifth result :)
