Well, with many reservations, I think I am going to be purchasing a pellet stove. Being a long time coal burner, former wood burner and a pellet burner -(junk HD pellet stove) , due to the availability of coal in my area getting harder and harder to find and as a result, more costly, my wife has finally talked me into going back to pellets. Pretty much made up our minds to go with a Harman. Seems like a good design with the bottom feel/shelf design and definetly want a "higher end" quality stove. Now the hard part. Deciding which model to buy. First thoughts were going with the P61 or P68, the Advance, or the XXV stoves. All would fit our needs. Any thoughts on one over the others?

Need more information on your house size, type, and where you will be locating it. You'd be hard pressed to beat the P68. That is my main stove and it has done a great job for 5 years. We are close to being neighbors, I'm about an hour away from you in Littleton.

Hey Tom!
Yeah we are neighbors when you are living in NH. Nothing is that close and anything an hour or less is considered "close" LOL Im was kinda leaning toward the P68. My thought always is "you cant have too much stove". Especially after having a coal stove that can pump out 120 thousand btus! The stove will be centrally located in the 1st floor living room of a "moderate to good" insulated house. (probably even better than good insulation but a lot of glass) House is right around 2000 sq ft open floor plan, two floors with large open stairway in the center of house not far from where the stove is. My wife is leaning towards the XXV or possibly the Advance partially due to their looks.

The p61 works great for us. Really easy to clean, but I guess any Harman will work.

It al depends on how much horsepower you want. You know how cold it gets in the winter. Most would tell you my P61 is too much for my house, but when it's below 0, I'm glad I have it.

If you want any chance at getting a P series, don't let the boss see the XXV enameled.

:: edit :: I was too late.

Choosing a pellet stove is just like choosing a wood stove. Go to all the websites and look at them and get the info on them. Get on hearth.com and get real world users input. Go to the stores and find out availability and pricing.

And then buy the one your wife wanted in the first place.

Go to the Harman website. They have coupons available I believe.

Harman has a great deal going on for the next two weeks total package of an 800 dollar savings but thats including the federal tax credit so just say a free ton of pellets and 300 off of the stove

I hear ya! LOL It might be a losing battle. She has put up with wood stove "grunge" on the floor for years, coal dust for more years, I think I might not have much say in this one!
