Dealer says I can't use Harman coupon.

I purchased a Harman XXV about three weeks ago. At the time, the dealer was running a 10% off offer.
It was really just a discount along with the Harman $100 off coupon that equaled a 10% total discount.
They told me not to print the coupon since my preferred install date wasn't until five weeks later. My specific coupon code will have expired by that time, and since I paid for installation, they couldn't invoice the unit until it was installed.
As many of you know, Harman now offers a $300 coupon that replaced the $100 coupon. I called my dealer, expecting them to say, they would refund me the $200 difference after the install. Instead, they told me I couldn't use the new coupon and get additional savings.
I told them, the $100 coupon no longer exists, so there is no coupon for me to present in order to get the $100 savings.
They said, "I will call you back in ten minutes."
Eight hours later, and I have heard nothing.
Am I wrong here? It seems like the dealer shouldn't care, since Harman reimburses them for additional savings I get with the coupon.
Any opinions are appreciated.
 
If this is the entirety of the story, and there is absolutely nothing else that may be pertinant to the sale,and there is absolutely nothing in writing, bold 16 font or fine print, that would affect the terms of which you have presented, then you might have a point. You bough a great stove, and did some great research while making your decision, and you used the information that you found very wisely. But as far as resolving a dispute between you and the dealer, well, that is something that you guys will work out. You may get a lot f opinions here, but in the end, that all that they are. Good luck and enjoy the stove.
 
Isn't the XXV around $3k MSRP? Plus install you are probably around $4k or so brand new?

If they gave you $100 off for the coupon and then brought the total discount up to 10% isn't that more than $300?

What am I missing?
 
Their total discount was $350. $100 of that was from Harman. My point is that the Harman coupon is independent of the $250 discount they offered.
Since the coupons offered by Harman have no impact on their income, they should have no issue honoring the coupon.
Since they have accounted for the $100 coupon in what I have already paid, they would want to recover that money through Harman. But since there is no longer a $100 coupon, there would be no other option for me, than to provide the dealer with the $300 coupon. And then, when Harman reimburses them, they would get to pocket $200, instead of passing it on to me.
 
I bet the price for new customers today is about the same as it was when you bought, regardless of how coupons/discounts are applied.

Id say let it go enjoy your XXV and dont get in a pi$ing match with the Dealer you may need him later on down the line !

It certainly hasn't been a problem free transaction so far. Even when I was trying to give them my money, they wouldn't return my phone calls. I can't say I will recommend them to any friends.

Very Sorry to Hear that my Dealer Rockys in Augusta Maine has been nothing short of the best and his staff the same ! Nothing Erik's me more than someone that doesn't return your call in a timely fashion after they have gotten your hard earned $$$ As a small business owner I'd NEVER Do that ! Not the way I was brought up ! Just the same Best of Luck you have a great stove !
 
Is it possible that they are super busy? I mean it is cold out and that tends to make dealers if warmth if all types busy!

You sure you want to buy from them still? If they are bad before the sale wait until you have an issue after.

They already have my $4,500. The only other relatively close dealer (40 miles), was $700 more installed. And they said, they would charge me to travel out to perform any service.
 
It is the case and not standing up for the manufacturers but have been a dealer for twenty plus years and we share the cost of either the $100 or $300 coupon

Thanks Ben. It is tough to tell your tone, but I feel like you are offended or irritated with my take on the situation. I don't mean to offend, but I assumed the worst with this dealer because they have been less than helpful thus far.

You are close to me, are you dealing with the Harman dealer in Rutland?
 
Not offended or irritated and sorry if I came acoss that way. A good dealer is definitely important and you want one who will be there for the long haul. Was just expressing that the dealer doesnt get reimbursed for whole amount of coupon.

It is my fault. It is always impossible to decipher someone's tone by reading their text. Yet, I always seem to try to do it.

Enjoy your XXV and the heat it will give you and hopefully savings as well. You may also want to check into the $300 tax credit that was extended for last year and this year. Any savings help

Fair enough. Did you check with the dealer in Rutland? They aren't 40 mi from you and I have had only positive experiences with them.

X2. Why would you give a full price deposit if they were not invoicing? 10% max to hold a price with ability to cancel for full refund should have been in order here.

Also is this the best time of year to buy? Burning season is winding down soon and from my experience the best deals are mid summer through September. Shops around here generally run 10-25 percent discounts with small deposits to hold a price and payment on install. Plus the shops aren't flat out on service and looking for the work. YMMV

I knew I was going to buy one, so I saw no issue in paying for it all up front. The first surprise I got, was hearing, "I don't know if the owner will be happy with you buying now to take advantage of the discount, but not have it installed for a month."
I said, "Why does it matter when you install it? I am giving you all the money now. It shouldn't matter when you install it."
I will call them today, and see if we can figure something out. Now that I know that half of the coupon comes out of their pocket, I will probably let it go.
 
Half the coupon comes out of the dealers pocket?? Really? I got my quad last September when they were running 300 off coupon just like now, and my dealer pitched in an additional 10% off and a free ton of pellets.

It's not worth starting a poor relation with your dealer because unlike a brand new car, only the dealer you bought from can perform service under warranty. If anything maybe ask for 50% off a ton of pellets.
 
Dealer told me when I bought my boiler that the coupon was split wioth Harman. Nonetheless, he gave me a good deal (before I presented the coupon) and agreed to deduct half the coupon. However, wrote it up to reflect full coupon. I guess maybe Harman wants to see the paperwork and gets an opportunity to see how much of a discount dealers are selling at. As far as not running invoice until stove is installed, that makes sense if you don't pay anything until stove is installed, but if you pay anything the payment will be processed. I can understand if he said the warranty would run from the date of installation.
