It seem that m stove turns on fine but the igniter is not working. Could i possibly need a new ignitor already... only after three seasons?? What else could cause the ignitor not to work? Anysuggestions would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!

Matt

It all depends on how much you've used the ignitor. Three seasons is not unusual. If you can use a multimeter, you can check your ignitor, or just put in a replacement. If the current ignitor is still good, you'll have a spare on hand.

I agree w/ Heat Seeker.....3 seasons is reasonable, especially if the stove is an "on-off" unit.

Disconnect the ignitor leads and run an ohmmeter across them....should read somewhere in the area of 40-48ohms if it's good.

The original on my stove failed in less than one season. Granted it was used once a day for the most part. The replacement seems to be holding up much better, mostly because it doesn't get used much anymore.

Harmans do not have a Hi/Lo mode.

Heck, I would still like to try a $25 ignitor in a Harman without the fancy fins. I think it would work just fine! The leads on the inexpensive ignitor would have to be extended about 10 more inches but could easily be done with butt connectors and the old ignitor leads!

Don they aren't talking about Harmans.

Thanks, I was working on a Harman Advanced today. I must have Harman on my mind! LOL

In this case, the 6041 does not have On-Off mode. Only Hi/Lo mode with the Ignitor. I think that is because the Igniter is not high enough wattage to light 100% corn.

Don, who said anything about lighting corn? And what does that have to do with his ignitor burning out?

Don, the dry moly spray cans say to use in a well ventilated area......

Just giving you a hard time. For a minute I thought maybe USSC was bought by Harman, putting me in the cool kids club by default.

What I am saying is there seems to be no reason why the ignitor should burn out quick.
It is a standard Vulcan Tempco design

I would recommend measuring the length and getting a new one from Grainger.
I believe the manual states it is a 250 watt ignitor, but I would go with a standard 300 watt from Grainger and it may last longer.

Just match up the length with the one closest below and buy some Ideal Quick Disconnect crimp on clips at Home Depot and save some Dough!

4 inch long 300 watt 3/8" diameter cartridge heater for Englander Stoves

6" 300 watt 3/8" diameter 6" long cartridge $29.55 (Replaces 6.5" ignitor and lasts longer)

5 inch long 300 watt 3/8" diameter cartridge heater element

These Ignitor shaft collars work in Englander stoves and with a couple washers you can replace those expensive St. Croix Hastings ignitors cheap!

I would suggest that the op use an OEM replacement part. Guaranteed to fit, plug in and not take out fuses.

Either works fine, just the difference in price is $69.95 for the OEM or $27.95 for the Vulcan
