Couple of the stoves look familiar.
The add is for the kit only, not the stove. What about the whole set-up? Have you seen anyything like it before?

No just the kits. Stove manufacturers aren't on board with the mod. Its a end user only option.

BioBurner here has one on his. Cross link kit IIRC.

Three words come to mind: unsafe and rinky-dinky.

Kinda what I thought. But I didn't want to be the first one to say so.

I built my own "kit" for way less. I don't get more heat per say but, I can distribute the heat much better through my house. I posted a thread on here about it. It got moved to the boiler section, and now I can't find it.

looks like a ton of money for a home brew, void your home owners insurance, kinda kit!

Does it work like you expected? I do agree it is high priced for what you get but how much profit does a dentist make on one tooth these days.
I will argue about twice the heat produced as it is just dispersing the heat in different ways that allow you to take advantage of in floor heat, heating domestic hot water or existing baseboard heating systems that eliminate cold rooms.
To say unsafe and rinky- dink tells me you have never looked at the product and shouldn't judge it.
There is several safety shut-off switches that shut down the system if something goes wrong.
I owned one and had the water going through a heat exchanger on the electric hotwater heater then going through the hotwater baseboard heating system in the house which worked good. I had two reasons for selling it. One being It was located in our basement and my health problems prevent me from carrying bags of pellets downstairs, The other was we were planning on heading to a warmer climate during the winter.

One question... Does he have liability insurance for his company and it's product?

Google Crosslink Conversions- send him a e-mail saying you would like to talk with him and ask Him your questions. I am not a salesman but having owned and ran the kit I will say I know more about it then some people who never seen it but can still downgrade it. I could say part of the cost of this product would be liability ins. The heat exchanger that fits inside a Harman PC45 weighs over 60lbs so it is no mickey mouse outfit.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't need to see it, to know that it is unsafe, the stove is not designed for that use, you have voided any warranty that the stove has, and I doubt if your insurance company knows what's going on, if they did you would have no insurance. If there was ever a claim, good luck.

It looks exactly like what it is, something that someone slapped together in his garage. Probably a good idea in theory, but this guy has jumped many safety steps. He shouldn't be selling them.

My 2 cents.

Some people are inginuitive, and some people sit back and criticize. I am at no more risk of burning my house down then I was before modifying the stove. All the same safety features are in place that were there before installing my homemade kit, plus added ones for the boiler part of it. My insurance company does know what's going on, and it didn't even raise my premium vs having the unmodified stove.

Any one who can say they have never modified anything to have it work better for them, or even use something in a way it wasn't intended, is full of it.

The Crosslink kit is only a small part of what you need to convert over to a boiler. You are responsible for adding all the safety features yourself. From the pictures I've seen of their kits, they are not thrown together in a garage. I'm not defending the Crosslink claims, only the perceived qaulity of the product. I can't imagine that anyone who doesn't know something about being mechanical or doing some research, is going to buy one of his kits and NOT make it safe. If they do, to quote George Carlin, "the kid that eats the most marbles, doesn't get to grow up to have kids of his own".

Which safety checks were over looked? My ins company had more questions about the stove then the kit that was put in after they seen the stove. After both inspections they said it was good.
Many good ideas started in a garage or farm shop. As far as stove warranty after 3 years most of the warranties are no good anyway. This is not going to replace a full sized Harman boiler or a LDJ furnace. It will not cost as much as a Harman boiler either. Nor will it consume as much fuel. Its not for everybody but it does have a place in the market.
We all have our own opinions good or bad about the same as argueing which stove is best. But to say your ins won't cover it ? maybe you should switch ins companies as many will cover it.
I haven't seen any homes burn up or explode using this product. Can you say that with nat gas or Lp furnaces? Did you know that he has sold these units in Canada and many states in the US including Alaska?
