I have heard that a premium softwood pellet burns hotter and cleaner than a hardwood pellet;lol. I am pondering the thought of giving a bag or two a whirl, anyone have suggestions;?

This tends to be true. Softwood burns hotter than hardwood. The only drawback to softwood in cord form is the density. Because pellets are made to specifications the density difference is ellminated. Because of this softwood pellets tend to be better.

LaCrete's, Spruce Pointes are very good pellets IMO, MWP softwoods and LG's are decent as well.

McFeeters have done well for me this year also !

Been burning primarily softwood pellets for years now.
Will only burn hardwood pellets if I am forced to.;)

I'd go with Vermonts or Okanagan.

My McFeeters have been hot as sin but dirty as anything. I've burned half a ton and won't burn the other half until next year -- I think I'll save them for when it's so cold I don't care about the ash!

What brand of softwood pellets are your preferred choice?

Just picked up 4 bags of Mcfeeters. Looked at some reviews and they weren't highly recommended this year. I burned a half ton last year and liked them. Kinda pricey. The only place I can find them around here is aubachon in Sanford for 6.49$ a bag. It was these or Maine choice for the same price.

I would choice spruce pointes softwood pellets over Turman hardwoods. I burnt 2.5 tons of turmans and have been burning spruce pointes this week. Hands down prefer the pointes . fluffier ass less ash buildup in burn pot, ash isn't adhesive. Glass is cleaner. I would say hotter burn less pellets used and the volume of the pointes 40 lb bag is slightly higher IMO.

The past two winters I have been burning primarily Spruce Pointe.
Thanks, I guess I will have to take the 50 + mile ride to CT Pellet and get some:cool:

If making a 50 mile trek to CT Pellet. Get several types at different price points and find out what burns best for your stove at the best price point for your wallet.

All great suggestions here so far
