I switched over to auto about a week ago. There was a day that I left the stove in manual but otherwise its been warm enough outside to leave the stove in auto. Probably turns on about 6 times a day or so. Anyone else make the switch yet?

Hello

Not sure what you mean?

The Auto/Manual toggle switch on the Harman P61A is for the ignitor. When the switch is in manual mode, it disconnects the ignitor and then you have to light the pellets with starting gel.

Room temperature mode uses the ignitor. When the room temp probe senses the temp set on the dial, so when the room heats up to the set temperature, the stove shuts down.

Stove temperature mode will always keep the stove running on the low heat setting.

Really? Take another look at the harman sticky.

Well, that is what I was told. Please explain. Thanks

What are we talking about here? Room temp vs stove temp or auto vs manual?

On my P61 next to the auto/manual switch it says igniter, so I assumed the switch was for the igniter. Have I been wrong all these years?

Room temp auto vs. manual. I run in room temp 99% of the time.

I have also been RT/Auto during the day this last few days, but not at night.

Nope. If I know the day is going to be in the mid to upper 40's and the sun is going to be out, the stove gets shut off during the day while we are work/school. My wife will turn it back on when she gets home mid afternoon. Saves pellets and wear and tear on the ignitor. Otherwise I always run it on manual.

Just read through the Harman sticky. How often do your stoves go out during the day? Even in room temp mine doesn't go out so I have never switched it to manual, only gone back and forth between stove and room temp.

If you mean switching from Hi-Lo to On-Off, no, haven't don that yet. I wait until outside temps are consistently in the mid to high 40's before I switch.

Yup, started a couple days ago running room temp with ignitor in Auto at night vs ignitor in manual.
Trying to stretch the last 45 bags to end of April. Also upstairs bedrooms are staying warmer so
trying to keep sleeping temps down.

Tried it at the beginning of the week, but it still cycles on and off to much for my liking. Still in manual.

Agree with hoot and imacman. Being a true basement dweller, I dont switch to auto or even room temp until it stays on the upper 40's consistently.

ETA: just noticed there are no basement dwellers on this thread. Most likely wont be any switching over yet

If you run in room temp/auto, It will once it gets a little warmer.

This depends on a few factors but outside temp and wind speed play the largest role.

You might actually be using the ignitor and not know it. When the stove starts it's shutdown process the feed motor runs much less frequent. Thus cooling the exhaust. Once the room temp probe senses temperature lower than the setpoint on the control board, it starts feeding pellets. The ignitor may actually be activated at this point. I have seen it happen on mine. When I come home while the stove is in room temp auto and in the shutdown process and I want to raise the room temp I turn up the thermostat (similar to turning the temp dial on the stove up) and the ignitor will turn on for a little while.

Yes I believe it is pretty much the same on other stoves.

Same here.

Interesting. So if I switch it to manual will it continue feeding and keep the stove running on room temp? You have me fascinated with this switch I have never touched.

When the room setpoint is satisfied, the stove will go to a very low burn and the convection blower will turn off. When the room calls for heat, the stove will start the convection blower and start to feed pellets as required.
