In The Woods
I hate working on Basswood but we need a trail in this area so it has to go. I might cut it 24 inches in length so we can burn it east/west in the Lopi Liberty for shoulder season wood.

Looks like it is just a touch better than cottonwood and Ohlong arm says he gets 8 hrs out of cottonwood in his Blazeking. Of course those Blazekings will burn for 7 hrs just on a couple super cedars. :p

Get lazy and just cut it into small enough sections to move it off to the side so you can get your UTV through :)

Granted that goes against your signature...

Since I'm running out of room for stacking around the house I'll stack it back in the woods, we use it one way or another, the wood stove or the outside fireplace.

We have lots of Hemlck down that will throw more heat than the basswood.

You have a blade for your Rhino. Shove it out of the way! ;) It's the only tree in my woods I'd rather "recycle" than go through the effort to burn.

stuff looks all uniform in size with no branch work etc. Cut the 24" lengths, split once, and done.
Like you said.......the outside fireplace will burn it up

Got to get it out of there.. let something else better grow.

Look on the bright side.. You'll feel like superman throwing those big, heavy looking logs around.

Makes good kindling.

It sure does Jake, we have 75 percent of what kindling I had ready for the 2012-13 heating season still left over so we'll use that for the 2013-14 heating season.

Just don't split it and it'll last a tad longer. That's the new invasive(sp) species on our lot and they're keeping me busy cleaning them out of existence.

Zap I haven't read much on basswood but I assume its probably like poplar. If its exposed to the weather, it'd probably get funky. Might be good for roofing planks or framing wood......not really sure.....

You gotta have bees, bees love Basswood trees.

That's what I read concerning Basswood, you want it on the inside of a building, not much for strength.

Looks purty in the outdoor fire ZAP. Every fire looks purty don't it?
