Is there anybody near ovid mi who would be willing to help me move a 6*12.5 wood shed about 150 ft to my back yard ? It needs to be moved so that I can build a storage shed where it is however I don't have a ride mower or quad to move it and there isn't enough space to get my truck in there. I will provide beer and lunch !

Suggestions on how to do it would be great as well. As of right now I am going to use 4*4's with pipes on top to slide it to the back yard. It is the shed in my avatar pic.

Thanks
Pete

I've moved a shed a little bit wider than that with round fence posts for rollers
Fixed 4x6 rails under to skid on.
Had to move it myself but had a tractor to push.

edit: fence posts with holes for rails break FAR too easy o_O

I would empty the shed first. The one in your avatar looks pretty full...and heavy.:p

Do you have a mule, ox, yak, team of horses, or chiuaua?

A couple 14' 4x4s or 4x6s would make nice runners...just cut the leading edge at an "upward" 22.5* angle (like a ski). Would be best to do on a day when the ground is frozen.

If I was closer I'd bring the quad and we'd have it moved in no time.

If you don't have anything powered to move it, it think you'd need at least 3 guys to drag it...maybe more.

I do not have any of those things however I have been called a few ! you just discribed what I was thinking aside from the upward cut I will be sure to do that.

Thanks guys for the tips !

I helped move a shed. We slid it on schedule 40 PVC 4" pipe.

A come-along or winch might help if you have something to attach them to.

And a nice long lever to help steer and keep things centered. Actually, you could move the whole shed that way, but it would be slow.

I'd be looking around for some nice, fairly round locust poles. or you could use maple. Get some smaller diameter trees (between 6-8") and cut them around 7' long, use them to roll under the shed. You'd need around 5 to do it.

Jack the shed up, put the rollers under it, set it down on the rollers and as one spits out the back, put one back in the front....

if I lived closer, I'd help you out. Any chance you could use your truck to pull it out back? Wait for a day when the ground is frozen (should still have a small cold spell between now and April),

My experiences thus far with trying to move things with atv, tractors, mowers, is that its always a lack of traction between the wheels and ground that causes problems. My garden tractor and 30 HP John Deere have both spun their wheels pulling stuff even with tire chains installed.

Better watch out for that Dennis guy Pete. He likes to do things vertically,so I don't know how he would be moving a shed horizontally!:) I might be through Ovid Fri. early afternoon if that helps any.

Thanks gary it looks like the 14th or 15th will be when it gets moved. I am going to be moving firewood around this weekend in preperation for the shed move.

Thanks for all the advice guys based on what you guys said I believe I have cobbled together a plan. I greatly appreciate the advice !

If you can rent a set of Hilman rollers, that would be the way to go. They are designed to move heave machinery on concrete floors, but planks should work just as well with that weight.

Our neighbor moved our shed with his HD, no rollers, just the skids it's on.

Consider extra supports across openings. Something as simple as nailing a 2 x 4 across a door way will stiffen things up.

That would be great Dennis ! I would like to do it in a few weeks before the spring while the ground is still hard. How is Judy today Dennis ?

Pete

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner Pete. Just let me know. Judy is still weak but I can see some changing every day. Bad part right now is the pain as she can't take the arthritis meds.
