Used to always wear leather and would quickly wear holes in the index fingers and thumbs. I could trash a pair in two days cutting and stacking. Firewood is really hard on gloves.

I picked up a pair of these at Menards and they are great. Really durable, breathable, and give you good feel and dexterity. I have about 2 cord on these with NO signs of wear. They have padded palms that helps with saw vibration too.

Seen a couple glove posts before...thought I'd share.

Price point?? How much? I wear out gloves quick and have been using the white cotton with blue rubber fingers and palms lately. Cheap and last longer than leather - but not much longer unless you do the math on $3/pair vs. 12 or so for leather. I am going to buy in bulk from this place here in Michigan. They advertise on the radio sports channel all the time and have a pretty great reputation for bulk purchases of replaceble items like tarps and gloves. $10.00 a dozen. Use them for a few days and throw em in the fire pit!!

I think they were $17.

Thanks Lukem - keep us posted on the longevity. I would pay high dollar for high quality but it seems working in the wood yard is hard on anything called "gloves"!! May be a market for bomb proof firewood gloves that stand the test of time.

Hmmm, might have to check out a pair of those...

After posting about the ones I have I went out and processed hickory. Nasty stuff. The gloves have some wear now. I worked em hard. Still intact but definitely on the downhill slope now.

I buy the lime green ones on sale at AIH. Like $7/pair. I went through 2 or 3 pairs last summer and I cut/split well over 30 cords.

If those Amsteel gloves aren't crazy expensive might be worth it. Like if one pair lasts a whole summer and they were under $20 that wouldn't be too bad.

I have a couple of pair of Nitrile, got fed up going through leather.

The only issue I have had is when I have used them to lad the stove and melted a couple of holes.

Think they were $7.

I would expect they would easily do 30 cords.

Three bucks for the HD blue rubber palms. They wear out and toss. Best gloves I've had to date. Even wore them to take down wire lathe and plaster with pretty good luck.

I'm currently torturing a pair of Atlas Fit and a pair of Harbor Freight copies of the Atlas Fits. $6 and $2 a pair respectively. Are the Amsteels better than the Atlas Fits?

I wait for TS to have a sale on their 'orange' work gloves - picked up two, 3 pair bundles for $6.99 a piece about a year and a half ago, and I still have two good pairs left - after cutting, splitting, and stacking about 8 cord + using them for all kinds of yard work. Those gloves seem nice, but I have a hard time parting with that much $ for one pair of gloves - will be interested to see how long they last. Cheers!

My employer buys gloves for us, but the gloves they buy in the summer suck. I would go thru a pair in less than two routes, delivering foodservice stuff. I bought a pair of Atlas Fit at the hardware, since we were out at the warehouse. After three weeks, I had to throw them away because they were getting really stinky. Cardboard boxes are surprisingly abrasive, and really tough on gloves.

IF I have to buy gloves, Atlas Fit is what I buy. I have tried the HF gloves, and they aren't bad, but the consistency is all over. Some last for quite a while, some don't.

I also have a pair of these, from back in the day http://www.ringersgloves.com/All-Gloves/Extrication-Short-Cuff. I use them when I can find them ;em, and I'm not sure I'll ever wear them out. I am sure I'll never buy another pair, though, at $50.

The padding of the Ansell gloves might be nice for sawing, though. I'll check them out when I go to Menard's next time.

Finished splitting (with the log splitter) and stacking 2.5 full cord of the nastiest hedge rounds you'll ever see. Extremely stringy and sharp. The gloves don't look new anymore, but there's only a little superficial wear (mostly the nitrile coating isn't shiny any more).

After hearing about some of the other lower cost options out there I'm not sure if the next pair I'll buy will be the same thing, but I expect to easily get two full seasons out of these, if not more, which is a lot better longevity that anything else I've tried.

I think If searched for my name on Amazon my picture would come up; Here are the gloves: gloves.jpg

I don't have a large hand so I have a little trouble getting gloves to fit right , but these, HF, fit and are not bulky, they have been through 3 cords, no holes, not cold weather gloves, and will get wet.
Split Leather Work Glove, $4.99 , http://www.harborfreight.com/split-leather-work-glove-66610.html

I need some cold weather gloves that keep hands dry, do the Ansell ActivArmr Heavy Labor keep U dry??

Phew , Glad I read the post. Thought for a second that the gloves wood be a little heavy and stiff.after reading the title.
Hundreds of comedians out of work in the U.S.....and look who is making a joke...;lol

Yes and no. The palm side of the glove is nitrile so it stays dry...but the back side is mesh so it lets in water. I would say they keep you dry when handling wet wood, but not when working in rain/snow.

I'm taking your word on the durability of these gloves lukem as I just ordered a couple of pair of the Ansell 97-300 ActivArmr Heavy Labor glove (sight unseen) on-line. I decided to give them a shot as I am tired of wearing through tons of $12.00 leather gloves. Usually the right hand glove wears out way before the left hand glove, which often still has a ways to go.

They're about twice the price of leather but if they last 3 - 4 times longer I'm way ahead of the game. No Menards out this way so I had to order on-line and hope for the best. Should be able to put them to the test in the next week or so (hopefully) as the weather is starting to break around here and I just had a grapple load of hardwood logs delivered last week.

These are different gloves but similar

Do these type of gloves breathe at all? Do your hands get very sweaty?

They breath better than leather. My hands haven't gotten sweaty...but it's been pretty cold.
