Pellet withdrawal

Greetings folks. Since my move to FL, I've still been reading the forum from time to time. My Vernon AE insert is sitting on a pallet wrapped in moving blankets in the garage until I get a fireplace/chimney installed hopefully before next winter. Of course, I still have to find a source of pellets.

It gets cold here in FL, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. We've had nights in the 20's and 30's. And I keep being told how mild this winter has been.

My new house has a very open floorplan, and is single-story, so I look forward to heating with pellets next winter. In the meantime, I just wanted to stop in and say hi and I'll continue reading and lurking.

On a positive note, I converted my father into a pellet burner. He's burned wood since the 70's. He picked up a very slightly used Accentra and I gave him my pellet stash (about a ton) before I moved.

Thanks folks. I have other household projects to get done by summer. Once I am free and clear of all that, I can start working on getting the Mt. Vernon set up.

Just checking in... I've been reading the forum a bit lately. We've been getting a decent amount of winter-type weather down here - as it was in the 20's a few nights a couple weeks ago and we've had plenty of nights in the 30's and days in the 40's.

Got all the important things done to the house that needed to be done. The next big project (hopefully) will be to get a fireplace installed/built. I found a few fireplace builders in the area, and once I recover from all the other expenditures I've made over the last year - I'll get the ball rolling.

The Mt. Vernon is still in hibernation in the garage, waiting... But, the outstanding news is that I can get pellets locally. We've got a Rural King (kinda like Tractor Supply) that just opened up here back in September. I was just there today for the first time in a few months and saw they have pellets, $3.99 per bag.

We've got a Rural King (kinda like Tractor Supply) that just opened up here back in September. I was just there today for the first time in a few months and saw they have pellets, $3.99 per bag.

Find out the brand name or if they are a "Rural King" brand check here to find out whose pellets they really are by checking the UPC code...
Need some help getting UPC codes of the pellet bags.

I'll post pics when I get it done. I am thinking that a zero-clearance fireplace will be the most cost-effective way to go, since the Mt. Vernon is rated for a zero-clearance installation. Some brick/stone veneer to finish it all up will make it look like a "real" fireplace.

What kind of temps have you been getting in Florida?

I'll take a picture of the bag and scan the barcode with my phone next time I get to Rural King and post the results.

RIght now, it's 49 degrees. Taking a peek at the 10-day forecast I am seeing lows in the 30s starting tomorrow for 3 nights and then in the 40's for a week after that. Daytime highs are supposed to be in the 60s for the next 10 days.

I've had that done to me. Passers by have no idea why smoke could me coming out of my chimney. I'm in the garage doing some woodworking then all hell breaks loose. 2 fire trucks. They ask if they could come in and check it out. I say sure. They get their fire-finder viewer contraption, I take them to the basement. They use it on my insert. The fireman says "well, that's the only place where I can find fire".... duh!!

Ok, I got back over to Rural King today (well technically yesterday since it's now 1AM).

Needless to say, I am no longer elated about my local pellet availability situation after reading the reviews...
