Not from the bank, unfortunately. My cousin called and told me I can take any dead wood I want from his land, which is about 2 miles from my house. Some is right by the road, and a good bit more is within 100 yards of the road. There are a couple of paths that I can take the truck down to get very close to what I cut. Free, easy, and close - just the way I like it.

2 things stuck me as interesting/amusing. My cousin burns wood from this land, as do several other members of my family. They all said they have enough wood for next winter so they're not cutting anymore. Not interested in getting more than one year ahead. The oak I'm going to cut here should be for 4 years from now. Second, my cousin made me promise not to take any pine. He didn't want my house to burn down! He was adament, so I, not wanting to ruin the gift, agreed. With just the dead oak, I think 5 cords is easily accessible. Just when I thought I was almost done with wood processing for awhile! I guess we're never REALLY done....

Pics to come once I actually start cutting...

Sweeeeet. too bad about the pine LOL...

Sounds very typical. I wouldn't worry about the pine though with oak around. Congratulations on a great score.

Why even bother with pine if you have 5 cords of easily accessible Red Oak? Not suggesting you shouldn't burn pine, just thinking of the BTUs per man hour ratio.

good for you..... some dead oak for Red Oak, 5 cord, you'll not get bored and don't take the pine over the line.
