C L find --wood ID please ?

Thought it see if the long drive and 8 dollars in tolls would be worth it. Looks like popluar to me but not sure. Any input would be great.

Here in Maryland I believe we call that stuff poplar. Not terrible if you don't have any firewood seasoned in the racks. Me, I am at the point where I will not take it anymore. Burns too quick and leaves too much ash. However, it does season quick and it is good to start a fire with. Maybe take enough to make kindling out of it. Any chance you are around Howard County?

Missed the Craigslist ad that you posted and then found the thing tonight doing a search in the Baltimore area. Kind of nice that you can drive right up to it, but it sure does look like poplar from all the other pics. Being able to drive right up to it is nice. If you had a trailer and could take almost all of it, NEED more wood, and do not mind taking up storage space with poplar, I would say go get it. If it wasn't in Harford County, I might have taken a truckload of it myself just for kindling.

Im in AA county, and if it is poplar thats a little to far. I'm finding it very hard to pass up any downed tree. The wood bug has a hold of me!

Yeah, if I was in Anne Arundel County there would be NO chance of me driving to northern Harford County for that wood. Unless you live in northern Anne Arundel, I am closer to that wood than you are and it just does not make fiscal sense to go and get it. Talking about an hour each way driving. Probably 120 miles or more round trip, and with diesel being $4 a gallon that is almost $40 in gas. To spend that much on diesel I would need to bring the trailer along and fill it up too with primo stuff to make it worthwhile.

If you're not hurting for wood in order to get dry stuff for next season, sit tight and better scores will come your way. If you are needing dry wood for next season, you may be able to get some soft Maple out of the Spring storms. Split and stacked before Summer, that stuff will be pretty dry come Fall.
