Chimney Cleaning

I am looking for advise on what equipment I need to do a cleaning on my chimney this year...I am have about 20ft to clean and I think it is a 4 inch flex pipe that we lined the double wall from old insert.

Where to buy and method would also be greatly appreciated.

Also is there any procedure that I could follow to "spring clean" my m55?

Have to take this project on myself this year.

I've thought about picking one of these up to clean my flex liner (25ft). Make sure you don't buy a metal brush. It'll rip that liner to heck. I'm sure others will chime in with other options.

I have 30 feet of 4" liner. I bought the Rutland 4" Brush (polypro) and enough 4ft flexible fiber glass rods from my local Lowes. less than $70 total. Correct not to use a steel Brush.
The Linteater rods are too flexible. They need to flex enough to get into the liner , but stiff enough to go straight up.

dryer vent cleaning kits from Lowes give you the standard 4" brush and rods. Pull out the insert, using a a 5/16 driver, open the clean out port vacuum out and then push the brushes up into the liner from there WHILE YOUR VAC IS RUNNING sucking out what falls down. Takes 5 minutes and yer done. Refer to cleaning instructions in your manual for the stove itself or bug someone on here

Last night I moved my lopi insert tapped on the pipe a few times with vaccum running the I took my leaf blower backpack. Of course the wife wasn't home and blew the dust up and out the 27'. Pipe then ran the brush up a few times and blower once more was a wonderful thing and yes door ws open for fumes then air freshener. Wife never knew what I did

Sorry to ask, and this maybe self evident once the stove is pulled out...the clean out port is the mounting bracket that came with my stove?

Also- I get the impression here that I can clean this from the bottom up as opposed to going on my roof-remove cap and go down with the brush,right? That would be so much easier, not to mention safer.!

now I have to admit using a gas powered leaf blower in the house wasn't the safest thing but I wanted more power guess a guy thing as usually I use the electric this way, as there is no way in hell im going up on the ladder to use the leaf vaccum my power lines run right next to chimney lets just say it could be a shocking fall but I wont try it again and its off my bucket list

Hi LIBirm on the M55. remove the side panels top and ash lip- all cast pieces. Remove the surround (2 screws each side).
Have vacuum at the ready, unclip front and gently slide stove out- once the stove body moves away from the exh pipe conn
flange, ye best have that vacuum going there... pull stove out and support appropriately. Make your way up the liner conn and the exh housing, take out that 5/16 cover plate Scott was talking about above... clean appropriately. You're ready to attack the rest of the stove if you want. Be careful with the convex blower wiring and ribbon cable for the mother board not chafing anywhere, and take care removing the combustion blower to clean. Good luck

Yes make sure its a poly (not steel) cleaning brush- lotta folks will use sections of rods screwed or clipped together and run it up the liner with a drill to clean with- make sure drill is on tighten or it might come loose in the chimney then you have trouble. I like the setup camdids above- If you do the stove cleaning- be careful with the motors, but brush them off with a small unused paintbrush or something, dust off auger motor too. The convex blower be aware of wiring locations etc. All in all about 2-3 hours cleaning The interior gonna be dirty up in top with the scraper housing- and take out cast baffle and get down in all crevices. Be aware where the damper setting is about 1/2 inch sticking out (on left the air damper slider rod) is about the norm. Good luck with it.

good lord, are those prices real? I bought five 4 foot rutland poles and a 8 inch rutland brush for $50 yesterday. I must have missed something?

Unfortunately they are lol. The only reason I've considered these is because "I think" they are stiffer than the linteater rods. I've had trouble with them in the past binding in the pipe once I turn the drill on. I've got 25 ft of flex liner to go straight down my chimney. Again, I'm considering them, have to make up my mind soon.

I search around the net- seems to be best price around- I could get the linteater but I would have to buy the extra rods- get it closer to these.
