I am new to this forum and I'm sure this has been discussed before - I would like to purchase an ash vacuum to clean the pellet stove that we will be getting in a few weeks. Could someone recommend a good one to purchase ? Thank you !

Type 'ash vacuum' into the search engine and you can read the many previous discussions on this topic.

We use a Shop Vac w/drywall bag and HEPA filter.

Regardless of vac, vacuum 'cold ashes'... unless you like fire outside your stove.

I have one and prefer my shop vac. More suction.

Small shop vac works great for me

I use my shop vac and added a 15ft extenstion so I can put the vacuum outside. I open the window and put the hose in. Use a towel to cover up the area of the window still open. All the dust is now sucked outside and it is also quiet when I am cleaning the stove out. Do this once a week. Works great and all the ash is back to nature(my lawn).

^ have my shop vac out on the enclosed front porch for the same reasons. : )

PowerSmith ash vac. Amazon.com Case closed.

I've got one of these as well and really like it... I've tried small shop vacs and the hose would always get plugged, these work pretty good with regard to this, rarely plugs up. Says it works with warm ashes too, but I let them cool down anyhow just in case.

One thing that I don't like about it is that the actually unit seems very thin, so I dropped it once with the ash in and it warped the can a bit. I was able to contour it back into place, but doesn't lock super super well... Still works good though, just need to be careful with it.

Other than that, it does a great job vacuum up the ashes and the filter is great, I see no particles in the air.

Cleva Ash Vac, over 1 year old and no problems at all.

I see no one is recommending Loveless Ash Vacs. I have one and know why. POS in my opinion. Filter pugs to fast and it sounds like a jet engine and the accessories are a joke. Plus they cost about $180 bucks.

I bought the small metal-bodied shop vac they have at walmart, and use it with a bag as well as a filter. I started out using my larger shop vac with no bag, but found it clogged the filter really badly fairly quickly.

+1 for the PowerSmith. I have the PAVC101 and love it. Very powerful in my opinion.

i have one also..cheetah II ....was working good till i used it one day and there were still hot ashes...burnt a hole right thru both filters...bought a hepa filter for my shop vac..using that now... filter was cheaper than the cheetah..

I have a Cheetah II also but use the shop vac with hepa filter when i want to really clean it out.The Cheetah works ok for lite daily vacuuming but won't suck stuff out of the crevices.

I purchased the PowerSmith Ash Vac from Amazon. It has worked great for me so far.

I haven't been happy with the Cleva ash vacuum - clogs too fast, poor suction. My stove has a long shut down so pellet embers have not been a problem. Thinking I should get a small shop vac...

Anybody here like the Meeco/Red Devil Hearth Country Ash Vac with Pellet Kit?

Various tools and small hose to deep clean your pellet stove. You could do a search for it and it should come up in google with a photo.

i use one of these with a hepa filter, never had any complaints or ash escape it, used the same filter on probably 100 cleanings by now. i ripped out the belt that drives the carpet brush in the front so it pretty much acts just like a shop vac does.
Actually, I use one very similar to that too. Obviously, I wait until long after the stove has been running but with the built-in HEPA filter, it works great. Not our primary vacuum so if it blows up, yeah well.

while very risky when in a time crunch, like the customer didn't turn the stove off before i get there to work on it, i've vacuumed out a stove maybe 10-20 min after it was turned off. very risky and not recommended, but if you only take up smaller amounts of hot ash it will cool enough as it is sucked in to not light the filter.....
