Had my mind made up that this summer that I would buy an alderlea t-5 wood stove. In the back of my mind I was hoping to run into a deal to save some money on the stove. What I found was a pacific energy fusion(stainless steel) brand new but for almost a thousand less than the t-5.Really dont like the looks of it but love the price. The guts of the stoves are the same but the outside is a another story. My question is will i get use to the looks of the stove over time or spend the extra money for what you like the looks of? I know the alderlea is a convective stove which you guys thought would help me since I am putting the stove in a smaller room. What type of a stove is the fusion?Save the money and hope the looks of it grows on me(fusion) or spend the extra money(alderlea) and be done with it?

It is something you'll be looking at for a long time. A thousands dollars is a lot of cash, but if you spread it out over twenty years it doesn't seem so bad.

Personally, I think the stainless Fusion looks pretty neat, but I'm not sure I want one. It is convective as well.

My opinion on good looking stoves is probably questionable, since I think my stove is a sexy beast.

+1
I think it looks snazzy in a contemporary/Euro setting. . .would probably look out of place in my house, but I could get used to a lot of things for $1k. Maybe you could try it out, and if you can't stand it, sell for little or no loss. . .

I think all of the stoves in the PE Super series are considered to be convective, because they have a "floating" firebox inside an outer shell of convection panels.

I say save up for the stove you really want and will have to look at for the rest of your life.

Or, if it is an exceptional deal, maybe pick up the Fusion and store it until October. My guess is you will be able to sell it for a $500 profit without trying too hard.

For a thousand bucks I'd probably find a can of black spray paint and knock down some of that bling.

I love the looks of the T series, but I love a thousand dollars of nice dry oak more.

Matt and hopes to one day own a T series.

I wonder how hard it will be to keep that much stainless steel looking clean. I'm a bit of a stickler for things looking well maintained and my experience with smaller SS appliances like our microwave oven has shown me how difficult to keep the surface free from fingerprints and smudges, etc. A big SS stove like that probably looks really nice, assuming you like the contemporary look, when it's all shiny and spotless. But get a number of streaks and smudges on it and it probably sticks out like a sore thumb. Something to consider.

I cliked on the picture to make the stainless one look larger, looks like a microwave, I generally like the contemp look but if you really want the other one Id shell out the cash, like someone else said, $1,000 over 10+ years isnt so much.

As to the "floating firebox" at one time it was exclusive to them. It ain't a box inside a box. It means the baffle assembly can expand and contract without stressing the stove body. Pretty much all of the non-cats are the same way now.

Just convection panels.
