Bunch of cheap skates here may never see the worth of these. Those that have issues keeping the house warm and are unable to get through a weeks burn without stove cleaning duties will benefit from these. Are they for everyone? No!, but some will see that you'll burn 6 bags of these and get the same ash content of 1 to 2 bag of the lower quality brands. If you have never tried some, Maybe you should!

I picked up my sample last evening at CT pellet. Mr. Warm had 2 bags of DF and Black Hills included in a delivery to an Okies delivery to CT. They are random of the line so no special just for me samples(Not the way I play as most know)! Scott offerend me some North Country and Trebio's. But I don't think I'll have time to get to what I have for samples as it is. Don't have the time I used to have these days. But I'll do what I can!

I also got to meet Mr Warm for the first time. as he is making his New England spring tour of the pellet houses. Interesting chap to say the least. Had a hoot of a time listening to Scott and Doug chat about their advantures in the world of pellets.

Should be able to burn some samples here shortly, Shooting for this weekend. Weather is warming and soon the water will be calling. So I had better get my tail in gear. Work is on the busy side this time of year, But I will do my best to get these and the La Crete's, Orfords and some others I have on hand! Should be interesting. OMV is supposed to be working on a sample and branson4720 has ordered a few tons. Hopefully they will chime in with their experiance on these Okies DF. Looking at the lab testing I see very high BTU content and an ash content that is just stupidly low!

I can go many weeks on the cheaper, higher ash stuff in my stove if I want. So, no need for me to spend that kind of money. I bought a Harman for a few reasons. One of which was so I didn't have to chase my tail finding pellets that my stove could handle. And another reason was to save money on heating.

Cheap skates? Yeah Im sure there are some here. But come on, where do you draw the line? Would you pay 400 a ton for pellets?

I am going to assume that the cheapskate remark was a joke that did not come across as one as intended. I may grab a couple of bags just to try them but I would be very surprised if they would even come close to being worth it compared to Vermonts or Turmans about 80 dollars cheaper. I did burn a ton and a half of Blazers which should be comparable. And they had marginally less ashn the latest batch of Vermonts and less heat on a pound for pound bases.

Maine pellet sales in Lisbon Maine also has them for the same price. I certainly won't be buying any. Oil starts to look like a better option at those prices

I doubt I would either but even at $355/ton thats still 20% cheaper than oil at $3.58 per gallon (per million btu's)

Yes it certainly depends on price for oil. Today oil is $3.29 here.
At some point even though oil is more expensive than pellets, one might consider the convenience factor of oil.

Yes, I too am a cheap skate and can not afford the price of these to fill my whole stash with them. I may think about a ton for the cold, But the rest of my stash will be filled as frugal as I possibly can! Guess I shoulda put an emotion in there somewhere.

Seriously think you should try a few bags and let me know what ya think. I value you opinion very much and would like to hear your thoughts on these! That is if the dealer is willing to sell by the bag. Sometimes with these high dollar pellets, Dealers are less apt to offer by the bag sales. I will promise that they will be the lowest ash pellet by weight you will ever lay your hands on! Volume is also the lowest I have seen. Rumor is these are from one of the best pellet producers on this planet! I prolly have just said more than I should have, So thats all I can say.

So I scored a bag and decided to test it out. Went to my coldest room, dumped the bag in a metal bucket and lit it. Figured if it has great heat and no ash, I should be all set. ;)

Wasn't Impressed :p

I may be one of those who could benefit from a ton, but damn a $90 premium over my best pellet is alot to fork over. It would be nice to really try out though.

Yes Jay..... 2 tons are on the way! Hopefully burning a few bags and reviewing by early next week. It is supposed to warm up weather wise, so I'll need to get it done ASAP. I'll post pix of the tonnage as soon as it hits my driveway.

Just place the bag in the cold area's of the house. The radiant will warm the room no problem! :p

G, even some of the dealers I have talked to are afraid to carry these as they fetch such a fancy price. The fear is they may de-value the current brands they are carring. Some are not even going to bother. Some may do a special order only basis and will not advertise them at all. So if you decide you want some(come on I know you really do!), You may have to ask your dealer that carries Okies or BlackHills.

I do plan on swinging by to see if they will sell any by the bag. In fairness I cannot make a final judgement until I have tried them. I also judge ash on volume since this is what determines when I have to clean my stove not the weight of the ash.

From what I remeber the volume was also in the stupid range! IIRC it was something like 4 bags of the DF to like one of the DryCreeks I was burning at the time. But in fairness to the pellet makers, Ash is judged not by volume, but by weight and weight alone. My stove has no hidden nooks and cranies to hide ash. Once I remove the baffle, All ash is accessable. Only ash I don't bother to chase after is that may go out the vent pipe. My lil quad was the same. My bigE was impossable to get all the ash produced.

Well if these are so hot that they make the Harman furnace meet temperature with fewer pellets and maybe save a ton, then the cost would be more justifiable, but just to say it would save having to clean the stoves and furnaces so often.....Hell, part of the reason some of us do this is to play in the dirt.

Okay, so at least I know I'm not the only one. I find something oddly zen-like about pulling out the ash vac and spending the time to clean out my stove.

People start paying these prices we are screwed:eek: Next thing you know it will be cheaper to burn oil! I for one, can burn a ton of pellets that cost me 225 a ton, and go two weeks! I have burned almost 2 tons, with only a five gallon bucket full of ash, and what ever is in the shop vac! Jay I will join you in the cheap skate category, cause if I can keep my house at 74 degrees on the lowest setting with cheap pellets, I will take it!

They certainly won't be lower in BTUs per $. What are the reported BTUs as received on these and say some mwp blend?

See how these compare to those test blazers two years ago.

I am pretty sure they are even cleaner than the Blazers and the test results I saw have them very high in BTU content. Moisture content is also pretty low.

Ash content(no its not a misprint!) 0.10% and BTU of 8574 ain't to shabby!
