I have a Belgian Saison going right now which historically the poorer farmers and would drink in the early 1900's and down. It has a long history in Central Europe and is a very good but different spiced beer.

What have you got going and what do you think is a good Home Brew for the summer ?

I just made another batch of brown ale, with a twist. At one week out, it seems to be very interesting and quite promising. Next on tap will be a Canadian Blonde Ale. This will be my first easy wort using Cooper's product. I have some nice local hops I'm going to add to spice it up a bit.

Nice! I've had some great Saisons. In the fridge right now are Maredsous Tripel, Grimbergen Dubbel, one left-over Troeg's Mad Elf, Victory White Monkey (worth a try!), and Ommegang Three Philosophers. The microbrew scene is doing so well these days, I couldn't justify brewing my own!

A weizen made with Wyeast 3068 is mandatory. Best one I ever made was with an acid rest around 110° for twenty minutes or so. It fermented hot, around 80°, and had some really funky clove and banana notes.

WLP 300 is supposedly the same Weihenstephan strain, but I like the Wyeast a lot more.

Got a Harpoon IPA brewing right now....will move to a secondary fermenter this weekend and then bottle in about 2 weeks. Yahoo

You know Jags northern Il is to far from lower / central Michigan !

So where are we all meeting up to sample these brews???==c

If you fold the map just right, Philadelphia is the central location.

What if you fold it left or inside out you could wind up in Russia or worse yet the middle of the ocean !

I think Cadillac, mi is a good central location. Except I'd have nothing to contribute except opinions on the brews.

I am just finishing a Belgian Ale, it's in the taste a bottle every couple of days stage, and I'm drinking a German Ale that I brewed in January. Any Hearth.com member who wants to come over and give it a taste is more then welcome.

Last summer, I made 3 kegs of Hefeweizen, and it was too much. By late fall, I still had a keg left and couldn't stand to look at it. This spring, I'm going back to all grain brewing and making two American Amber Ales and a porter for late fall.

had a keezer last year ,just to easy to drink from the taps too much.

got some KBS in the cellar along with a few other stouts

Mainly a IPA junkie but a good trappist Belgian is wonderful

Cheers

Admitted hop head myself. A bunch of 2 row, a little 60L, a whole lotta Centennial or Amarillo hops, and a healthy US-05 starter make for blurry bliss. My year 'round beverage of choice, but a fizzy weizen does please the masses in the summer.

Have to say the hefe is my favorite type of Summer brew, but like to stretch them closer to the sasion because I love the clovey + spiciness.

Next weekend I'm going to do another Hefe and chuck in a bunch of blueberries from last Summer.

I have a Bells Two Hearted clone that just went into the keg. Have a chocolate milk stout to brew then probably try my hand at a Belgian.
