It's eminent domain in reverse. Anything you have that is of value can be taken from you. Anything that is a liability is deemed your responsibility. On a larger scale, an example is the abandonment of factories, stadiums, etc. Near me, in the beautiful Mohawk valley town of Canajoharie, smack in the center of town, sits the recently abandoned Beechnut canning facility. Old and unreclaimable, (except at great expense), simply closed it down and left it in the lap of the taxpayers. Walmart and Target have huge distribution centers nearby. Shoddily built, what will become of them when they close? Sorry to hijack the thread but I think it's about run it's course anyway.

More than a little OT, but not a surprise, and actually in keeping with a theme. I knew the owner of Beechnut Corp. He was a ruthless cheapskate. I have dealt with many of his past neighbors and associates, and have never found anyone not his heir, who would say anything positive about the man.

Around here from the main to the house is your problem, the valve on the main is theirs, but if it is on the end of a smaller feed line to your property, then the valve is also your responsibility.
