Howdy to All,

I'm new here. I've been getting ready to switch over to pellet after 23 years of wood heat. I've used this forum for lots of great info and advice. And now I have a specific question. I'm looking at a Quadrafire... but the owner saya he can't find a model #? (I'm 80 miles away from him so a quick run up is not affordable).

I'm going to try and insert an image in hopes that someone can identify it. He said it is 2007 year and it is rated at 50-60k btu rating. Any help is greatly appreciated. Sorry the picture is little blurry.

If that is a Quad, its very very old. I have one that dates back to 1993 and looks nothing like your pix.

Contact the seller and try to get him/her to varify the make and model.
There has to be a name tag on the beast some place.

I have been talking (texting) with him and he says he can't find a model #. I was thinking it could be a good deal if it truly was a Quadrafire... but I don't need an orphan stove
for my first adventure into pellet burning. I'll see if he's open to getting me some better pictures.

Thanks for your input.

Close-up of the red name plate (I'm guessing) on the front would help for starters. Other pictures would be controls, hopper lid inside, plates on back... May want to rethink the purchase:)

Well... He sent a couple pics. So blurry I couldn't do anything to improve them in my photo program, so I asked for some better ones and it must of ticked him off, 'cuz I haven't heard
anything since.

Guess I'll resume my search for a stove elsewhere...

Thanks for all the input/replies. It's appreciated.

John

Just for grins I've attached a pic of the controls... It's the best I could do to clean it up.

hogo welcome to the forum, there are many stoves out there for sale some are kinda hard to find parts for so do your homework others are just plain trouble bad designs mismanaged companys that went under this forum has a the info and knowledge that your wallet can handle to purchase your first stove that will work for you, just do your homework ,

Wowzer...!! Thanks for solving the mystery! The fella I've been dealing with might have a legitimate excuse in that maybe he was scammed into thinking it was a modern Quadrafire...
And if not then shame on him. You saved me a long drive just to go discover that myself.

Thanks again, and back to my "search"...

John (hogosmith)

no problem , googleing pelletier or however it was spelled will bring up a few hits . sounds like it's late 80's .

cheers Woody

I contacted the fella and told him he might want to update his craig's list ad... He didn't act surprised that it wasn't a Quadrafire , but wanted to know why I didn't want to but a mid-80's Pellefier stove
for $500 ?

At the risk of breaking forum rules and hi-jacking my own thread, Is there a round a 'bout year or time when electronic ignition and/or thermostat compatible stoves became more common place?
I'm trying to find a stove (used) in the $500-600 range that will work with a thermostat. My wife is in a wheelchair and I'm hoping to give her the ability to run the stove when I'm gone. (we also have
a forced air furnace) so the pellet stove won't be the "only" source of heat)

In our area, Whitfield is a common name and Breckwell, and I see a few Harmans, but they're usually out of my budget. I also see Englander occasionally.

Any input is appreciated.

John

hogosmith just keep watching craiglist for that price u will be able to a mid 2000's stove I purchased two 2008 models a quad & whit for 3 and 350 respectively both just completely clogged with ash, and I just purchased another quad castile for 400 for a friend needs a convection blower so deals are out there

The eastern seaboard seems to have a higher rate of used stoves available. Price range in my area is higher and availability is lower. It seems to be the same in the Washington area:( Craigs list isn't showing much... and it depends on how far you're willing to travel.

Keep looking:) and, as you have learned, buyer beware. He obviously was trying for someone who didn't know much about pellet stoves and didn't have the sense to check here;)

Edit: Have you talked to any local stove dealers or service techs who may have used ones available?

I haven't talked with dealers or service techs yet. I've sent a couple queries out to dealers trying to get information on older stoves, but with no response from any of them yet.
Homework, homework, homework.... reminds me of an ancient time called "high school". LOL

I probably do need to check with the local dealers, tho.

Not sure if you can financially handle an increase in budget but this is an option also... refurbished models. Do these qualify for tax credit?

Interesting idea on the refurbished stoves. Thanks! Will need to look into it.

John

P.S. I did come across an Austroflamm (spl?) Ad said it was older but worked great. They want $500 (obo). I asked if it was thermostat compatible but haven't heard back yet. Are these stoves any good and can parts be had?

As they are direct from manufacturer, they should qualify for tax credit but call the toll free number!
