IMG_1612.JPG I know I should do my own homework on this, but I'm in the last week of the semester before finals, so I've got a lot of other homework to do.

I have a good bunch of this mystery wood. Not red oak. TIA!

Cherry.

Looks like cherry, but it's hard to tell at that distance.

Cherry
good stuff ;)
Looks like it will split straight too. :)

Black Cherry. Only medium heat output but I grab as much as I can because of the redeeming qualities mentioned above...and the bark looks cool.

OK. I will guess cherry. ;lol

Never seen the stuff in my life.

Hard to believe that. It's widespread and you're in its range. If you start buying wood, you're bound to get some, then you're in for a treat. Smells fantastic as it dries, and gets deeper in color. A veritable banquet for the senses. Did I mention that the bark is cool? ==c

Dearly want to buy wood somebody else cut and split. But with four and a half acres of oak and beech in front of the house it probably ain't gonna happen. Heated the house off of it for 28 years and the woods look like I never owned a saw.

Now I just need someone to help me ID these mystery bantams IMG_1629.JPGIMG_1619.JPG

Oh, I thought in your other thread you meant you were done cutting your own wood. Maybe you just swore off messin' with the electric company? ;lol
Your Cherry is probably like my BL, then; Plenty of it around here, but none on our property so I have to scrounge it. You ought to see if you can trade a neighbor for it or something, just to check it out. That's what I just did to get more quick-drying soft Maple, which is sparse in the woods, mostly found in yards here.

Cherry smells great, and is decent burning. Gives off a lot of ash, and does not burn as long as say Oak. Splits great, unless you get a gnarly section, then it is a mess of uglies.

I'd be very pleased to have that stack of cherry in our yard. We have quite a bit of cherry here but not much for size.
