I decided not to have a fire last night. After all, tanks were 191 up top, and 160 on bottom. Nah, I said, That'll last.

I usually leave the ipad on the nightstand, and while watching TV before bed I looked.. 186.. and the spread was smaller.. so I knew the heat was already calling.

I woke up around 50.. tanks at 140! 22 Degrees on the thermometer. I started a fire without the draft inducer, after all, it was gonna dump 100 degree boiler water in to my already cold tanks.. Oil kick over happens at 135 tank temp.

It was a close call.. but no oil switchover. Phew... I mean I wouldn't want to burn more than the 25 gallons I already have since Oct 1. I'll be more vigilant tonight. :)

Good job ! I don't worry about my oil kicking on. I don't have any. The heating elements are out on the water heater also. If I want heat or hot water I have to build a fire.

I used 10 gallons of heating oil today.. siphoned it out and put it in the tractor. I have 500 gallons in the twin tanks.. figured it's the only way I'm gonna use it!

As for no backup.. About half of the 25 gallons was "ok honey, just let the oil take over... you don't need to have a fire" (while I was away) CHEAP oil in the grand scheme of things :)

I just turned the living room stat up to give the house a shot of heat.

Don't think I've ever seen a summer so slow in getting here - I don't think we've had a day over 15c this year yet.

Same here. This has been one of the worst springs ever. Still plenty of snow in the woods. Finally supposed to warm up to around 60F this weekend. I'll believe it when I see it !

The NWS in Negaunee, MI just reported that the snowpack is still at 30" on the ground yet !! Unreal. And further north around Houghton its over 40" yet ! After last weeks storm, that just missed us, Duluth, MN got about 18" of snow, and as of March 1st has received 60" of snow !!!! That is unimaginable. Now the fear is that if we get a fast warm-up there will be flooding problems. Quite a winter and spring this year, completely opposite last year where it was dry and mild. I just hope we have a decent summer, spring has basically been a disaster !

Same here J.T. Most of our snow is gone, still a few inches in the woods, but for the most part it's melted. We've had one day it was in the low 60s but for the most part it's been mid 40s day and mid to upper 20s night. Ah well, the only thing about the weather is that it'll change in a minute!

Was snowing down here this morning. Absolutely disgusting. Nearly all the snow is gone except for shady places in the ditches and in the woods though. That big rain we had last week took all that remained in one giant melt.
Have you seen the pictures of the river down in Grand Rapids? The GR Press had a cool picture taken from inside a dentist's office right by the river. There was a fish swimming past the window. Smallmouth bass the way it looked......
The office itself is toast.

There was also a blurb in a different paper detailing how the deer herd up your way is really taking a beating right now. The pregnant does are nearly the point where they need maximum food intake for keeping the yuong'un alive and will start aborting pretty quick if nothing green shows up.

Every night I've gone to bed for the last week or so i've told myself ok this is it. I'm letting this thing burn out, and let the solar and oil take over. Yet every morning I roll over at 615 stroll down stairs, put on the coffee, look at the weather(YUK!!), think, no sun, 4 showers,2 loads of laundry, ah S#!t, whats one more small fire?? Off to the pile of kindling, and another day of burning!!
This weekend will be the end of it as I go away to work for a month.

Yup, there will no doubt be deer losses and poor fawn production this year. That should keep the wolves happy! LOL Our deer hunting up here pretty much sucks anyway. I know a lot of guys who have almost given up hunting. Traditional areas that always were good for deer are now wastelands. And yet the DNR is proposing license fee increases this year not only for hunting but fishing also. I think it will backfire and a lot of guys have said they will simply not buy a license, it's not worth it to them.

Snowing lightly here right now. It just won't quite I guess. Supposed to get nice here over the weekend but then right back into the low 40's with rain/snow next week. Very depressing to say the least !
