Put a down payment on a wood processor. Waiting for the loan to go through to finalize the payment on it... couldn't afford this out of pocket.
Should have it here toward the summer, have to drive out to Iowa to pick it up.

Got the processor and also a 30ft elevator. Working on a way to pile it all together so I can tow it in one trip. The factory may end up beefing up the frame/axle of the processor.

Has a live deck, 35hp Kubota, 20" harvestor bar, etc.

Two cords an hour how many guys does it take to run it?
 
Holy cow! That is awesome! And such a short drive to pick up ;)! Enjoy and you'll definitely have to shoot a vid of that in action. Cheers!
 
One guy can run it fine but it works better with two. I hired a guy a few weeks ago. The 2 cords/hr is "ideal". One of my friends has an older model with about 4000hrs on it and we had no trouble doing a cord an hr with it. The best part is the hardest part of the job was stacking the wood in the back of the truck. :)
I want to be able to do 1500+ cords a year. There is enough demand.

I'm probably going to come up with a ramp and winch to load the log deck since I don't have a forklift or loader right now. I'm keeping my eyes open for one, but used they are selling near new prices.

~7000 mile trip though the salesman said that they might be able to meet me toward Seattle with it.

Yea I would use the elevator and run lose loads. Less man hrs.
 
I don't do loose loads because it's hard to measure cords. It's a guess at best, all depending on how the wood falls into the truck. Plus the truck can hold 5 cords easily when it's stacked (8x20ft bed, 39,000lb GVWR)

My customers like that it's stacked and they can figure out how many cords "no kidding". I've had a few guys measure and calculate to make sure. Several guys do wood around here and most end up shorting people so I am not surprised.
One guy that was doing wood ended up in jail and pretty sure the bank even owned the contents of his lunch box.

Yep that's could be issue. Keeps your price point higher but if they will pay its all good!

Plans on in the works but I have a piece of land not too far from Shack's place I might setup on. For the time being though going to be cutting over there with a saw and splitter.

I know little to nothing about wood processors like this. Does no one in Canada or Alaska have these? Or perhaps this was a great deal to justify the time and $ to get it back home? Just curious, looks like a monster!
 
They don't have a dealer network, just sell from the factory. There are other companies out there that make processors, just I happened to like this brand. Have run one that has been in service for several years. Build tough and work great.

Home is Alaska, though most of my family lives in Maine. 7000 mile trip, about $2000 in fuel. Can't get it shipped up here for anything close to that.
Now if we met up in Seattle will only be ~$1000 in fuel and about 6 days of driving.

FWIW- I've bought split wood that was dumped in my yard loose off of the truck. I was told it would be 2 cord+. Which it was. These guys got a good rep. I paid for 2 cord and got 1/4 almost a 1/3 of a cord more. i just hate to see wood stacked twice. seems you ought to be able to do that with your steady customers. They get a bit more wood and you didn't stack it.

If you had a good price and were closer, i would send my pallets over and i would unload when you get here.:cool:

It's not that much more work to just stack it. Also I can fit more in the truck if it's stacked.

The gas engine smaller Block Buster (comparable to that unit) is $23,900. The price I mentioned (30k) is for the next step up machine and a diesel engine.

A 38hp lawn tractor engine is pretty rough on fuel!

The elevator being part of the machine is sorta nice, but having it separate is nice too. I can use the seperate Block Buster elevator for loading a truck from a pile or using a regular splitter.

I didn't really think U would want it, ran across it ,so I stuck it in here.
I didn't know the particulars ether, a diesel engine. is obviously going to be a much better machine
