I don't know anything about the Quadra-Fire.
We love the Jotuls. Is there a good argument to be made to consider a Quadra-Fire over, say, the Jotul Oslo or Firelight?

The Quadra-Fire Isle Royale was on my short list also but it was close to the same cost and quite a bit less efficient so I ruled it out.

The Quad IR can be top loaded. It is a strongly radiant stove and an easy breather. It can work with shorter chimneys where others might not. It's an attractive stove with a long track record of happy users.

Checked it out, nice looking stove, nice flame view & pattern. Reasonable price.

But what is Quadra-Fire® Four-Point Burn System?
It's a top loader, so does this mean no burn tubes? It's not a downdrafter is it? Website wasn't clear.

Based on the clearances, cast iron jacket and convective top I would say yes, but I have no first hand experience with it. Ask webby3650 about how well it heats with the blower off.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Quadra-Fire® Four-Point Burn System?

Didn't find much on the website. It's not a downdraft is it? I worry with the top load.

I would heat this joint with pretty much any stove out there and probably love it. But what I constantly hear about the downdraft stoves tells me I would never even try it. But for the life of me I don't understand why we never hear complaints about the Harman downdrafts. They are pretty much the same design.
Not all downdrafts are created equal. My harman gives a tremendous light show ,much better than my NC-30 Englander or my Country Hearth, both of which are NOT downdraft stoves.
ALso its great for 24 hour burns , i can stretch the burn time into the 20+ hours if the house is warm and i dont need it blazing. It seems to get better wood HPL (Hours per load) than either of my other stoves and it dont smoke at all (Once up to operating temp)at any air setting. I cant say that for either of my other 2 stoves. Mild winter days are 1 load days.

I'm seeing the Lopi Cape Cod as a convection stove primarily? Is this correct?
The Cape Cod is heating my entire house, 2,200 square foot ranch. I have not added the blower yet, that's a summer project, I hear that it's very quite and moves a lot of air! So to answer your question, it heats just as well as other stoves that offer the blower as an option. It just has a convection chamber on top that really rocks out some heat if you add the blower.

It's not actually a jacketed stove, it just has the convection top. I think the clearances could be a little greater to honest. The wall behind it and the floor in front of it get hotter than other stoves I've ran. I guess it's not hot enough to be a great concern, like the time the Leyden went totally nuclear and the entire back and flue collar were glowing! There was some concern there!!!!

I just installed the Quad IR this spring and love it so far!! It gives off a ton of heat and does breathe very easy. It does have secondary burn tubes on top. They rotate out of the way for top loading. The flame show in this stove is amazing! Here's a link for the four point burn system.
I would def consider this stove!

Are you sure that stove is not a steel box at heart. I thought we had this discussion a while back. Go back to the first Cape Cod threads.

Thanks for the link. Stove added to the short list. (getting longer by the day)

What did you and begreen mean about it being an "easy breather"? That's a bit of burner lingo I'm not up on yet.

I remember that thread, the OP said he was E-mailed from Travis Ind. and they said it was Iron, not a steel box. If my memory serves me right. And I have assembled a few ;), you can see the cast Iron behind the bricks.

The Isle Royale is not a downdraft stove. I've never heard anyone who owned the stove complain about its efficiency or the ease with which it burns.
A couple of people who have very tall chimneys have had some complaints about ability to control high temps with the air shut all the way down, but that's about it.
I like mine so much that I moved it with me when I sold my house.

20 hour burn time?! Specs from website mention 20 hours. Anybody actually getting 20 hours from the Isle Royale?

An easy breather just means it doesn't require a lot of draft to pull the smoke out of the stove optimally. This is particularly important with it being a top loader so that you don't get smoke in the room when reloading. I currently have a 15' flu and considering dropping mine down to 12' to hopefully slow my burn down a little. Most CAT stoves are not as easy breathing and require a taller chimney to work efficiently. I'm not sure how the hybrids do but with them having a CAT I would assume that slows the draft down just the same.

So with my 30 ft plus chimney would I have problems with Isle Royale?

I installed mine this spring so I have little personal experience with it but from everyone I talked to you can expect more like 12-14 hours of real burn time. Of coarse the phrase 'burn time' is very subjective so take it for what you will. From what I understand its most commonly considered the amount of time you can go between loads without having to relight the fire.

With that height you might be better off with a hybrid stove but I could be wrong. I would think that with a damper installed you would be ok with most anything. Too high of a chimney can always be controlled but too low can be really hard to work with.

Was measuring to see if I could fit the two biggest Hearthstone soapstones in my fireplace/hearth.

I am particularly interested in the Mansfield, but because of how deep it is, I will only have 8 inches of hearth between the glass and my hardwood floor.

The website states their soapstones need "ember protection only"

Does that mean I could use a hearth rug to "extend" the stone hearth if I went with the Mansfield?

Well, not having one handy I'll have to take your word for it. The cutaway appears to have a steel inner frame, and the convective top. But it is unclear on the sides. Thank for the clarification.

If that deep in the fireplace be sure to have a damper block-off plate and get the blower option.

Since you are putting the stove in the fireplace and on a solid masonry hearth. Ask the dealer if he has any old Hearthstones in stock, I would bet he has some old stock that require an R value on the hearth. You would probably get a great deal on one of these. The only difference is the leg height and additional testing. The old style might even fit better with the shorter legs.

If you have 30 feet plus straight up, you might have overdraft problems without a damper with the Isle Royale. That's a lot of chimney. I have 23 feet
with a pairs of 45's on the way out.
