Okay... haven't tried any of my 40"+ rounds on this little splitter yet, but here's one around 24" x 30" oval with two piths, from just below a crotch, I guess.

It stalled the splitter going vertical, and I had some real fun getting the wedge in-stuck, so I decided to try it sideways. It just barely fit:

That was the ticket! Made a fair amount of wood from one medium round.

I guess I'll be noodling the 49" oak rounds! Splitter is 22-ton Huskee from TSC.

I never would have thought you could stall a 22 ton splitter. In fact, I could not understand why someone would need a 27 ton over a 20 or 22 ton. Now, I know!

Nice bucket load.
Look like yo have a few big gnarly knotty twisted rounds.
I've yet to stop the 22 T Speeco , but not may trees here over 20".
Look like the 22 ton won in the end, splitting technique & location :)

I think "Huskee" = Speeco? Almost everything I bring home is over 24", and much of it over 36". The folks who give me these trees tend to cut up and use anything smaller for themselves.

That little ash should not have split that hard. Occasionally I get one that splits hard and had one today. But I do not run the engine at full throttle and when I get one that splits hard, I just give it more throttle. That usually does the trick. Today on the one difficult one, I simply turned it upside down and split it. Did just fine.

As for getting them unstuck, that splitter should be no problem. Just raise the wedge to the top and the log should come loose. If not, just give a kick and it will fall off.
