It started good at TSC but at home it started very hard. It would start off the primer push but then ran out of fuel so i had to keep pushing the primer to keep it running for the first 10 seconds then it could pull its own fuel. After it was warm it would fire back up so i sure hope next time i use it that the brigs motor starts better then that.

Sounds like crap in the carb. It finally flushed it after hitting the prime Byron so many times. I wouldn't expect it to happen again, but if it does, maybe you can drop the bowl on the bottom of the carb if it has one and see what's in it. Flush it out, put it back on and hourly that would do it.

yeah i was thinking about doing that last night i pulled the gas line off the tank to make sure plastic was not stuck in there and it was clear maybe tonight i will pull the fuel filter and the bowl and see what i can find.

I kinda wish it had a honda motor on it but i told my self that if the brigs motor goes bad i can put a honda motor on it if i need too.

Your gona love it, Ive had mine less than a year and put about 15-20 cord through it with my splitting and helping out friends.

Pull the plug and regap to.025" then change the oil to synthetic. Mine started hard until I did both of these, now it starts as it should.

Congrats on your new purchase, you will love it. I agree with changing to synthetic oil. Mine starts right up. I also use SeaFoam in my gas.

Could you get a close-up photo of the little casting on the end of the valve body, where the control lever is attached? Mine was loose when I got it, and when I went to snug it up, I noticed it's bent / bowed. Only a few hours use on it, but TSC doesn't want it back, so I need to set up an appt. with the local Speeco service shop. Meh...

Here's what I'm talking about:

Note gap on left side, above chain links. Leaks a big from this gap.

Did you try to install a second gasket on top of the first? You know twice as thick.

I didn't install anything. These come pre-assembled. That said, I don't see any gasket in there.

Nice splitter
Good luck
I'm betting it runs good for many years :)

I also recall wishing I had a honda. However, after using this old B&S engine for over 20 years I could not be happier. Thought it was on the last leg though after a neighbor used it and ran it out of oil. Surprised this spring when splitting that I did not use as much oil as we did last year. Still starts with one pull and has plenty of power.

Well i have not got back out to use it yet due to all the rain. So last night i went out to the pole barn and started building a motor for my car so the plan is this weekend is to cold for boating so i am going to get some wood put away.
