brought home some lengths of standing dead ash last night, about a half cord total over a couple trips, this was the biggest one....bit of work to load by hand but based on how dry and checked it is already i was highly motivated

transporting it 40 miles on the commute home from work...easier to tie down rather than putting the sides on the lil truck, the other factor was weather, normally i would buck it up too but having to cross a field with rain on the way i needed to get in and out of the bush rather quickly or face the probability of being burried in mud

Standing dead ash. Some of the best.

Ash is probably the best all-around firewood that God ever graced the earth with. It seasons very fast, it's relatively easy to light, it burns nice and hot, it has good coaling properties, and it smells nice when burning. It's a shame that the EAB is going to make that wood a rare thing here soon. Hopefully, someday, science will figure out a way to deal with the EAB, ticks, stinkbugs and the like without killing beneficial insects....not in the name of profits, but for saving our planet.

I agree Scotty. I got a call today from a friend who's a trimmer and said he's finding more and more of ash that's getting punky. So much dead ash here its just a shame. :(

That ash probably is ready to be burned already. For sure any I've cut that had lost bark could be burned right away. The bad part is that almost all we cut this past winter is going south. It will still be okay for burning but has lost a lot already. No doubt most of what is left in our woods will be like that so no doubt much will go to waste. Such a shame.

the outside 3/4 would burn but there is some moisture still in the center

I don't doubt that. Get it split and that moisture will leave super fast.

its going into the fall 2014 stack so we got time, and its already stacked lol

Got it split & stacked already
& No Pictures

Hoping you had help loading that puppy on the truck !

Nice chunk of ash, get it while you can

Lost 4 good sized ash on my property + a bunch more smaller ones ,It is a real shame but, It will keep me warm.
Burned mostly ash last winter, some was, cut n burn, I will burn a lot this winter also ,I have been picking up dead ash left n right close to home and will continue to seek it out and drag it home, great stuff for burning
