One of the gals that works for me lives in Utica, about an hour from Syracuse. She called me in a panic about 7 tonight, she said it was REALLY bad. Trees everywhere, one through her neighbors house. She was ok, house was ok just no power but her hubby is out if town tending to his sick mother, he wasn't answering his cell. She didn't know how to start the generator and didn't know who else to call! She remembered I am a "pro" at being without water/electric/phone after being almost 3 weeks out from Sandy and in a few minutes had her up and running. She said the wind was so bad huge trees were ripped out if the ground, root balls and all. Her biggest concern when it first happened is it dawned on her that she only has an electric can opener and needed to feed the dog and cat! She was able to borrow one from the neighbor but I have 2 P-38 (military can openers, not hand guns) ready to send her tomorrow :)

Hope anyone that lives up there is ok. I am all too familiar with how wind and trees are not always friends ;)

Most of it went just north of us, down the Mohawk valley. Father in law has a tree on his house this morning. Local volunteers out much of the night.

It looks like Saturday could be the next round of storms for NYS. Have your friend get a can opener that runs off batteries along with the old fashion hand crank style.

Just looked at the national radar and it is amazing how many small cells are popping up. We've had some pass us this afternoon but thankfully most have gone to our north or south which is quite normal. We don't mind it at all when they miss us.

It reminds me that I have to pour the last 15 gallons of the winter supply in the truck and get the new summer supply.

I wonder how many times the power company needs to replace poles/wires before it becomes more cost effective to bury these lines. Driving in AZ I couldn't quite figure why it felt so different vs the North East. Then I realized there are no poles and wires on the road.

I wonder how many billions of dollars the ratepayers in the North East will want to fork over.

Burying the lines would also omit the need for line clearance crews ,growth regulator applications, trimming and removing trees..a big money saver there as well.. Again I don't want to see anyone lose their jobs either...

According to what I've studied, it is much more expensive to run underground lines and that is why we don't see them often.

I see they moved us out of the red zone for today, tomorrow we'll be on the edge from what I just saw on a newer map that was just on TV.

Most of the new developments are done underground around here. Cost to run lines down existing roads would be huge; tree removal including stumps, escavation, fill etc. Never happen. I won't be moving into a development any time soon just to avoid poles either.
