I think the 16gpm is the bare minimum with a 4" cylinder. Anything smaller will make for a SLOW splitter!
Anything is far faster than the single speed that was on it. Besides the push plate stops wherever I want so it will be pretty zippy. At $80 bucks on eBay I won't complain for a new pump.

those old 'low riders' always look like it would be a lot more bending over to use, having never used anything but the 22t huskee I got, is it more stress on the old back? if so since you have it apart, might be a good time to weld up some drop brackets to lower the axle and raise the height if you get what i mean, I could be totally off though
No need its a good height and would actually be harder to use if it where taller. That said I am going to install a winch powered lift table later this fall when I have more time to do it as well as a catch tray on the end. All in good time I suppose! It's actually built from a Mazda rear end but I have not been able to determine what model. Tomorrow I am replacing the bearings assuming I can remove the drums lol.

I also have etched in a few spots a serial # so if it is stolen I can I'd it. I have even gone so far as to take pics along the way and photo book it all just in case. Three of my neighbors / friends have had splitter thefts in the last few years. Only one was recovered. Sorry not trying to get all serious on ya AP old buddy but ......Pete the paranoid
I am feeling a bit under the weather today and need some air so I pulled out the splitter to show you how it turned out. The modifications have a long way to go yet but that's a winter project catch tray on the end a winch powered lift table on the side. She looks sexy ! Thanks to Jags and a few others for sharing their advice and knowledge on this. It's my first full splitter overhaul !

Nate at the speed it goes now any faster and the bar would catch fire lol. I want to see that sooo in a few years maybe ill spring for the 16gpm. Just saying who needs fingers.......
