I just finished restoring my splitter and it occurred to me that the cylander does not extend as far as it should. When I hold the detent lever it pops about 4" from the wedge. Before the restoration it went to about .5" away from the wedge. How do I measure to see if its extending all the way out ? Am I supposed to bleed the air out some how from the system and if so how ? The thing is it splits really well and moves pretty fast so I don't really want to screw with anything but its been bugging me lol.

Thanks guys
Pete

Mark the front of the push plate on the beam with a sharpie, extend the ram, and measure from the front of the pushplate to the mark you made. Compare to the advertised stroke of the cylinder.

Unfortunatly the cylander stickers where almost worn off when I re did the splitter. I think I wrote it some where though. Thanks MM !

Also do you know how big a speed difference a 7 HP motor would make compared to a 5hp ? I have a chance at a free motor.

Depends if the 5hp was having trouble running your pump at rated speed or not. If the 5 hp can hold 3000+ rpm with the system in relief, then no need to go bigger. 11 GPM pump should run fine on a 5hp, 16 GPM I'd be looking for a bigger engine.

It runs it fast ( way faster than the single stage pump ) but it goes very slow with the power stage. I can't seem to find the specs for the motor it's a Subaru ex130d50051 which they don't have listed on there site. Ill keep searching for it !

Thanks MM

I went ahead and put the 212 cc on in place of the subaru. It made all the difference that thing is a monster now ! I split a 30" round of oak like it was butter but my back hates me now lol. Time for a log lift.
