I seem to remember the Fireview stones were 1-1/4" and 3/4", not certain. I wish I could remember where I saw that. I haven't been able to find it so far at woodstove.com. I'm also curious as to what the Keystone's are....

A couple of beefy nephews are coming into town next weekend. I'm not telling them in advance, but we're gonna have a little stove-movin' party to get the Fv over to their mom and dad's house. ::-)
I wish I took a picture , but two of my friends decided instead of ramps and a dolly to lift my 700 lb Esse cook stove waste high and carry into my house and set it in place,,,done! I had a hard time getting them to take 100 dollars,,, man saved a lot of work.. and no damage.. Boy I wish I had thought of the camera... I remember them looking at each other stepping up into my kitchen with the stove waste high saying , I figure we're each holding about 350 lbs.. :)

Looks Nice!! What is the maximum square foot heating for the Progress?
Hi Locust,
The Woodstock website says it can handle at least 2200 sq ft. easily. At first I was going to purchase a Fireview, but when I gave the house dimensions (including wall heights) to Woodstock, they advised that the Progess Hybrid was a better match for my cubic feet of living space. Other factors to consider are wall thickness, insulation levels, amounts of windows, and local winter temperatures.

I had the Fireview trying to heat my 1900 sq ft farm house.. Was a bit of work for the Fireview rated at 1600 sq ft max.. Burning harder wood and maybe running the stove almost maxed ,, would have been fine, but I think getting the Progress was the right move.. Thanks to Woodstocks 6 month trial period I was able to trade up for the difference in price to a PH.. How nice that Woodstock has that customer satisfaction clause for 6 months.. It allowed me to trade up with zero money lost.. Great people for allowing all new stove owners such a nice way out if things don't work out.. Your stuck with nothing, even your money back if you wanted... The Fireview is a sweet simple stove to run if it meets your heating needs for sure.. That's why I gave it try first.. Simplicity at it's best!

How many break-in fires does it take before the smell of curing paint stops?
My Fireview gave off an odor for about a good 10-15 fires.. Quite a few coats of paint on the Fireview plus more furnace cement in the Fireview then the PH.. I'm going to figure at least 5-6 fires on the PH before there's no odor.. Going to break it in while the windows can stay open with a few fans in the windows as well..

Charly. for the first few fires you had did you engage the catalytic combustor? I was talking to Woodstock the other day and they told me I should keep the first 3 fires in the Progress small and not use the combustor. They said to keep the bypass open for the entire small fire.

I'd follow Woodstock's advice.
The paint/stove will continue to cure for several fires beyond the break-in.
Each time you take the stove to a higher temp., more curing. How many more.....don't know exactly. I was gonna' say 27, but decided to not be flippant.:p

Going to break it in while the windows can stay open
With the PH, your windows can stay open in January. ;lol

That's how it was with the Fv; First few small fires, I didn't even get it up to the 250 stove top temp needed to engage, anyway.

That's right, no combustor engaged during break in fires.. Jamie told me the same thing @ Woodstock when I was there..

Dave, I've sent you a private conversation and you should receive a notice on it.

Tenn Dave: Minor detail, but shouldn't your signature read Progress Hybrid 2013?

Just know you are itching for a 49 degree evening....;lol.

No.... That isn't cold enough yet for a fire is it? ;)

Well, I purchased the Progress Hybird in June of 2012 before my house was built. It was installed in May of 2013. I was using the date of purchase. Should I be using the date of installation instead?.

Good question. I guess you can use either, or both:). If one looks at your posts re experience in burning, over time, it is helpful if you have issues or questions, if it is obvious how long you've been burning with the stove. A new post in the fall about an issue burning would make a lot of us with poor memories think you had already been using the PH for one or two full years....

If I had a new install, the windows would be open, I'd wait for my wife to leave for the day, let the dogs out, and get it burnin'.
But, that's me.
Yeah, I would love to be doing a break in fire in my new stove, but the problem is I am not in Tenn right now, I'm up in NJ at the shore cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy. What a total disaster !!!

Good point - I will make a change to it.

Oh... the 2012 is a very poor vintage, with the nose very closed and young. The 2013 vintage is bright on the nose, with a long finish, comparatively sweet with hints of smoke.
