In a previous thread I was given the Rennasissance Rumsford 1500 as a recommendation for a fireplace that would fit my needs. I did a search on this website and wasn't able to find out much about it. I did look at the manufacturers web site and I am very interested in this fireplace. Does anyone have any experiance with it? What are your comments or feedback on it. I'd love to hear any comments positive or negative about it. Thanks for the feedback.
Greg

Hi Greg,

I don't have much directly on the unit but I have a couple things worth sharing. I have seen the unit burn at Industry shows and it is very impressive It seemed to have a very clean burn and the Guillotine door worked smoothly. I was impressed with how easy it was to operate. I have yet to get one out in the field to get some actual "real world" sense of it however.
Having said that I can tell you that RSF the parent company of the fireplace is an outstanding company when it comes to fireplaces. I have many of their other units in customer homes here in Maine with only positive feedback. I also have a couple of the units in our stores and burn them regularly. From a company quality point of view my experience has been great. I would be interested to know your experience with it should you end up going in that direction.

Warm Regards

Hi Maine Stove Guy,
Thanks for the comments. I actually didn't know that the Rennasissance Rumsford was made by RSF. That is probably the information that pushes me to the purchase point. I have had 2 RSF units in the past, the Opal and the Delta. Both were well built quality zero clearance units. I was impressed with the qualilty of both and had no problems with them in the time that I owned those houses. Maybe I will be the first to get one and post a review on the web. I am going to call my local RSF dealer in Anchorage and see if they would order one for me.
Cheers,
Greg

I don't have much to add either but a friend of mine put one in his renovated home. He doesn't use it much. When it was installed, if I recall correctly, a too-long drywall screw (which held on the substrate for veneer stone) prevented the guillotine door from coming down, and it was a while before he found a way to get something up there to cut it off, or bend it, or whatever he did.

I just finished watching a few videos at their web site and have to say the fireplace looks impressive. I couldn't find a price, however. What are you being quoted? Does this fireplace have to be built into the house or can it be retrofit into an existing fireplace?

Hi Nick, It's a "zero clearance" unit that you build around. I'm afraid it won't work as an insert in an existing fireplace.
