Drolet Wood Stove

My house is approximately 1650 square in which half of the house has 13 foot cathedral ceilings. I live in Western Maryland and my house is only 4 years old so its fairly well insulated. I use a gas furnace as a backup heating source and use a wood stove for the primary heating in my house. I currently have a Wonderwood circulator stove in my basement which does not do too bad of a job considering its only rated to heat around 1800 square feet. Also, my basement is an addtional 1650 square feet and its currently not insulated. I am deciding on choosing between a Drolet HT2000 or a Drolet Myriad. If possible, can anyone provide me feedback on these two stoves and will these stoves be overkill heating my house. Most of the reviews I have read seem to give positive feedback. Thanks

I haven't heard any issues with these stoves. They are big stoves but should burn fine with a partial load of fuel when the weather's mild. Both should use a lot less than the Wonderwood to do the same job. And they will provide a nice fireview which may give you an excuse to fix up the basment mancave and insulate the walls. Of the two, the Myriad would be my choice for your milder climate. It has a more square firebox which allows more flexible loading options.

i would think the HT2000, basement + upstairs is 3300 square feet

i have the myriad (just bought it - havent fired yet) so only thing I can say is the build quality is very good for the price, nicer than most stuff I have seen in its price point

In a milder climate like western MD I think the Myriad will suffice. The difference is only .3 cu ft (3.1 vs 3.4) but the firebox config is more wide than deep in the HT2000.

My question then becomes is it worth spending the extra money which is around 200-300 dollars more for the extra size and not have to worry about purchasing a stove that is too small for my house. I think it would be easier to open a window than to overfire a smaller wood stove

The difference between the stoves is only 10K btus at peak output which is not for a long time. Your call. Both will do the job.

I would have bought the HT2000 but i got a good deal on the myriad, the 2000 if I remember right has better air control then the myriad and is a little more efficient, check for yourself but the 2000 air control slides where the myriad is a pull knob and ht200 can be loaded n-s or e-w, myriad is n-s, i paid 849? delivered from northern toll on the myriad a couple months back, earlier in the spring they had the ht2000 on sale at one point for 1099 plus delivery (no one sells drolets locally to me - the nc30 sale everyone talks about never happened around here) both have c-cast baffles that should be indestructable

i read everything i could find on them and that's what i recall for what its worth, check the stove reviews section here as there are a couple
