Has been the best summer I've seen here since I moved here.
Great for the garden & greenhouse.
Have been eating ripe tomatoes since early July. Garden doing great too.

Awesome job

Super crops. You are the master. Do you ever have to deal with aphids in the greenhouse? For two years now I have had them get so serious that I need to transplant the plants outdoors to get them to recover. Eggplant and peppers seem to be the most susceptible.

One year I had them bad. Now I keep the door & air inlet screened. & keep a close look out for them.
They like peppers. If I grow peppers, I grow them in buckets up in the ceiling, hotter there & the aphids don't like it but the peppers do.

If everything is screened, are you the happy pollinator?

I'm growing telegraph cukes in the greenhouse this year. They are prolific and appear to be self-pollinating. At least I know I'm not helping them. I like the attributes of Sweet Success. I will try them out next year along with the Brandyboy tomato.

Our green beans got eaten by the deer, only those high up on the trellis are bearing. I have another crop planted but it got in late. Plants are only about 8" tall right now. Hopefully we will get a crop out of them. Otherwise we're going to have grumpy relatives. They depend insist on our spicy pickled green beans coming for Christmas.

You can do that with regular zukes too. My wife makes a lot of zu_canoes in the summer. Try them stuffed with a rice, black bean, corn mix seasoned Mexican style. Very tasty!

From Moosewood?

That's possible. It might have been originally, but over the years she has perfected her own recipes.

Looking good Dave.... did you have a wetter than ususal summer too? We have good numbers as well.

Have you tried ladybugs?

Warm, sunny dry year. Best summer I've had here.
Many over 70° days & quit a few over 80° :)

Rainy season will be starting. Be nice if it was late :)

You earned everything you are getting from that garden. This year, my garden isn't one I want to display.

Wonderful looking garden!!
Do you plant outside, cabbages and such? I would think carrots would be okay, too.

I strongly advise against purchasing ladybugs. You'll be sent the Asiatic ones, and they are a plague. Have not seen a native ladybug in years. the foreign ones swarm up the side of the house, nest in the house, eat books...thousands of them. A big problem for lots of people. Go with praying mantis if you must buy bugs. If you keep your garden healthy, don't use poison, you'll have native healthy predators outcompeting problematic bugs for the most part. Bugs like potato and tortoise can be hand picked early to prevent larvae, and you should be able to control things.

There are organic sprays and powders you can make to control aphids. I'll look them up when I get home. Gave my daughter one for spider mites for her greenhouse in Hawaii; it has been very successful.

Yes, I get big cabbage, brocc, lettuce etc.
Getting nice big carrots now. Will be freezing some soon.
Lots of stuff in the freezer already & this year am getting a second picking on green beans & peas.
Have been digging fresh potatoes as needed too.

How long do you leave your potatoes in the ground?
