Long time landscape customer of mine called yesterday about a tree that fell out of the woodline into his yard. Could I come over and clean it up so his lawncare guys could spray this morning. Well shoot I say, I'm kinda busy trying to relandscape a McDonalds in town but what the heck. Went over there this morning and spent an hour cutting up everything useable and throwin it on the trailor and another hour cleaning and raking up the brush and throwin it back in the woods and came home with some hackberry and got paid taboot. My guys at work got things under controll so I might just prosess this to day and drink some beers as well.

I wouldnt do a drop of the hat job fer lots of folks but this guy is a long time client who spends thousands of bucks with us each year and aint a prick so I try to make them folks happy. Now this McDonalds job on the other hand. Redid 2 of them this year to the tune of 20K each but this 1 is a last minute deal so I dont care if they is pizzed or not. It'll get done when I get it done. I'm sick of the smell of that place anyways.

Sounds like you're really hard at it today. Me, I'm sitting in my air conditioned office waiting for 3 so I can throw on my sandals and hit the road. I'd rather be out cutting some wood, but I am playing George Washington tomorrow.

cleaning up the brush is the worst. You feel like you're "done" and there is all the hassle of getting rid of the leftovers. Much more tolerable when there is a wood-line to dump it all back into. Also, I presume since you mentioned landscaping you have a decent backpack blower, too.

Ditto... but I'm waiting for 5pm, and I'm not playing Geo.Washington tomorrow.

unfortunately, I will be playing GW tomorrow....have a couple of trees to drop and one BIG ONE to cut, and it's a 'free of charge' job for the scout troop up at camp. We've got a job to do on that one, I have to climb it and top it off. We wanted to do it on a week that we could go up without any of the kids, don't want them around when we drop that big boy. I'll be sure to post pictures.

One good thing is I'll be gettin' some more wood for the hoard.....I'm pretty sure one of the trees is a big chestnut oak, plus there's a big white oak log up there from the past winter i'll be hauling out for milling......

Looks like a good haul, Butcher! Hackberry, and paid to take it, to boot.....I'd be fine with that score!

Dropping 3 smaller Shagbarks tomorrow morning, they died sometime over the winter.I just noticed them last Thursday when taking a break from dropping & cleaning up that medium White Oak snag that morning. It was a twin trunk (75+ year old stump sprouts).Took the right half down in mid April, skidded it up the steep slope 4 weeks ago, milled the main stem same day.

Now finally getting around to limbing & bucking the rest of the tops. The Hickory should be close to a p/u load altogether, gonna give some to my remainlng Uncle & a couple cousins for their smokers.Just over 2 p/u loads for the White Oak tops & branches.

Even with just 10 acres to worry about,it seems like I just get caught up or almost then more trees are needing cleaned up.Starting to see the effects of that that drought from late 2011- mid 2012 now.Quite a few smaller-medium sized trees were stressed & finally died.

Sure cant complain about the weather, hasnt been over 84 degrees the past 3 weeks, normally this is the hottest part of the year.Really need rain though, just under 3/4" last Sunday night, first measurable amount since late July.

Scott, it would be really nice if you got someone to take good videos of you taking that tree down. Then later you can show it to the troop! Just one more lesson for the young lads.

I may have my youngest son do that for me on the willow job. He was going to come with us tomorrow to help with branches and such, but he went to Pittsburgh with my parents to some family friends' place for the weekend, and the other guy helping me out up at the camp will be filling in holes on the lane with some slate while I am topping that tree, so we won't be getting any vids of it tomorrow. But you are right, it would make some good teachin' material for the young'ns....

Don't do it!!! That's how accidents and blunders happen. How many Youtube videos were shot by someone saying to himself "I should have someone take a video of this". It's a curse I tell you, a curse! It's almost as bad as the final words you hear when watching someone show off "Hey guys, watch this!" But if you do take a video and the limb squishes the neighbors cat...make sure you post it here!
