After a bit of a hiatus this summer I got back to work growing the stacks. I'm already years ahead but of course I don't need to justify anything to you all.

I recently inherited my fathers old JD 314 after he upgraded to a new mower, so I bought some new tires and a cart and now it's my backwoods hauler. Nimble and easy to maneuver between the trees.

There is still a bunch of smaller stuff down in the woods behind my property so I'm slowly processing it and bringing it back up towards the house. I believe this is a black birch.

Not sure what this is... a hickory maybe?

Here are some shoots growing off the stump.

It's nice to get back into it after a few months off.... can't wait until it drops a few more degrees so I can start burning again.

Photo number two is black birch.

Nice setup.

Nice setup. That'll git 'er done!

Pic one looks like it might be a type of Hickory. Pic 3 and 4? Not sure. End grain looks like a maybe, leaf sprouts....hmmmm. Have you got a bark pic further up the trunk, and/or a split pic?

+1 on black gum....just cut a monster gum on Saturday morning (see my avatar pic)......the one we did was around 70' tall and hollow as a gun barrel.

Mediocre firewood, but its there and good for shoulder season so I'd definitely get it......

I cut a small black gum ~8" from the yard this past winter and the thing has put shoots up everywhere - stump and drip edge roots.
May want some hydros for that stuff;)

Perfect size tractor for your work there. Love the JD. That black gum is tough to split by hand.
Never seen hickory with little shoots.

Never saw the seat in the reclined position like that. Must have been and option!

I think the seat is a side effect of putting the pedal to the metal. Those will be some nice big rounds.
