This 441 is a bear to start from cold. With or without the pressure release engaged. Ugh!

Once it's warm, it restarts easily, but that initial go wears me out. <>

My dad has an older 046 with the compression release and it starts pretty easy. There is a sequence that I have to follow but it starts better than the 290. I have been using the 250 more than the 290 due to weight and ease of starts.

Maybe a carb tune up might help?

That reminds me of a funny story. When I would cut wood with a friend of mine we would take my 290, his saw and I would take the 460 for the big stuff and as a backup to the 290.

When I grab the handle to the 460 my thumb always hits the compression release as my hand wraps around the handle. Finally my friend ask "how in the hell can you start that thing?" He had been starting it without the compression release for several weekends and didn't want to ask me about it because he didn't want to sound like a wimp.

Comp release pressed in, full choke. Pull till engine tries to catch, comp release will close.

Press comp release again, half choke, pull till engine catches and comp release closes.

The 046 starts easy with this procedure. Then again, your 290 starts easy and mine does not.

You have inspired me to give the 290 a tune up. Thanks

This saw is 1 month old. I'm doing something wrong. My 290 is super easy to start. My 192 is easy. I'm screwing this up.

Yep, you are missing something. Should pop within 3-4 pulls and then fire on the first or second at the fast choke.

I can drop start my ported 372 without the decomp, but the 2100 will hurt you unless it is on the ground and you make a total commitment to pulling that rope.

This is an mtronic saw no? 441C on the side, no holes to adjust the carb....

Maybe an owners manual review?

Sorry I can't be of more help but I don't own an mtronic saw.... Yet. ;)

I know what you mean there. My 2100 is a rough go,even being 30 yrs old. Tried a couple times to try & start the 288XP & the Mac 125 without that decomp valve pushed - the 288 was a struggle, the big Mac damn near broke my finger when it snapped back!

Dolmars 64 and 79 push decomp set choke , couple pulls till they pop close choke lever( now 1/2 choke) couple pulls off and running. None of these are the new epa garbage though. I have had a couple different items with the E-z no start systems, won't buy any of that again.

I've got some old stuff that fires right up on the first or second pull too. Best of all of it vibrates, drinks fuel, and weighs more than this new crap. ;)
