I am installing a 1982 era Vigilant. I will have 6' of double wall stove pipe. When It goes into attic and out the roof there will be about 12' of chimney. Should the chimney be double or triple wall. All the pipe is 8"

As long as it's Class A rated chimney pipe, good to 2100::F, the number of walls do not matter.
FWIW, Most of today's Class A is double-wall...
