Feeling the Heat

Lake Orion, Michigan
Tree service called last Friday. This Oak won't be ready for a few years, but I could not pass up another free scrounge. Took 2 of us to lift some of the rounds. Growth rings count make the tree almost as old as I am. DSCF3814.JPG

Great score . i get all the oak i can even if thats all i can get . Never pass up Oak Just got myself about 3 cords from to recent Oaks 1 red and 1 chestnut

Love it! Usually splits easy and great heat once it's seasoned!

Now that's a neat picture - new wood and old wood. Nice score and yeah, those chunks look super heavy.

Look great. Those will split beautifully. I can tell all the way from here.

You have plenty of seasoned wood. Add that to the supply:)

Am I seeing that the wood is two pallets high off the ground or do you have something else under the pallets?

Nice clean rounds there, fun splitting

treepointer, applesister,
Yes, pallets and brick pavers under the stacks. I am not cheap, but if I can get stuff for free I am on it. Left over pavers and pallets from a friend that has a landscaping business. And about the Oak, I've said it before, I have a hard time seeing this type of great fuel going into a huge bowl chipper, but it does around here every day. They would rather sell landscaping mulch or ground up dyed pallets that came from who knows where than try to sell firewood. All about the almighty $$$$$$. Not complaining, just explaining.

I've only seen red oak so I can easily be mistaken, but that wood looks a lot like the maple that I have....but anyways, great score, I love clean looking wood like that

Good for you Tim. Looking at those rounds reminds me of an oak we cut last winter. Yes, they were heavy buggers but some really nice firewood. Easy work for the splitter but a bit harder work for the guy getting them onto the splitter. ;)

Ok, looks different then my red oak, that's allimage.jpg

I like using pallets, but sometimes I wish they were off the ground a little higher. That's why I was interested in your setup. Your stacks certainly look nice.

Well, I finally started splitting that Oak. Check out the surprise inside one of the rounds. The nails were some thirtyfive rings deep and I almost hit them.DSCF3846.JPG DSCF3844.JPG DSCF3845.JPG
Perhaps one of you could explain the deep blue color that the wood developed over the last 35 years totally hidden from view.
Take care,
Tim

Just a chemical reaction from the nails or bolts.

Don't you just love the really red inside splits that are square? Those are my favorite....

So how old are you , I mean the tree ring count?
Just curious.
That is quite a bit of wood there in them stacks, nice.

BIGDADDY,
Don't mind admitting that oak is about the same age as I am. I'll be 68 in November, and I counted around that many rings.

Ram 1500,
Yes, The squarer splint are nice. I like criss crossing them for the stack ends. Only problem with the Oak is drying time. That tree was cut green, so it will be a few years before it is prime fuel.

It's amazing how long it takes for one of those trees to grow.
Have a great 68th next month!!
