Electric baseboard has its place. Its very cheap to install and in a well insulated space not that costly to run. At least not worse than oil.

I used to heat my DHW with oil via an indirect. When the springtime came, I had to shut the heating system down to replumb everything. I acquired an 80 gallon AO smith electric water heater from a commercial renovation. I temped it in for DHW summer use. With 3 people in my house, I would guess it increased my electric bill by $40/mo. With that being said, I've finished my wood/oil boiler installation and will be plumbing both my indirect & a new hybrid electric water heater. Depending on what you pay for electricity will determine if it's worth it.

At $40 a month how much would you have spent on oil? My oil for just hot water was $18 a week, so $70 a month. In NH, 15 cents a kw is much cheaper than $3.40 for oil. In any application.

I've kept track of my oil usage since 2010 and have installed an hour meter on my oil boiler. I was filed up in early May & again in early November. I might have had a couple nights in late October/early November where the heat kicked on at night but between those 6 months, my indirect DHW heater used 155 gallons of oil or roughly 26/mo... Pretty close to your figure 102 gallons/5 months. For me, if oil were less then $2.40, then it would be cheaper than electric but I'm not so sure we will see those prices again.

WAY TOO much standing loss with oil as well .AS soon as the boiler shuts off air keeps moving thru the system carrying the heat up the flue.
WHIch is why you hear the boiler start up avery few hours to heat up the water again,even with NO usage.
